Soft Body Physics - Experiment #1

As some might have noticed, I've been trying to experiment more with animations and certain effects like belly kicks. I have discovered that isn't not as difficult for me now, as it was back then. Almost two years ago, I stumbled upon a video that explained soft body physics and applied it to the breasts. The process was extremely insightful, but I could never replicate the effect like he did. Or so I remembered it like that. In any case, my first real attempt as this was the  Tech Test of breast physics. It had several glaring issues, but I managed to hide most of them by using a t-shirt!

It's the general process of duplicating the polygons,  reskinning it and applying a Cloth modifier to it. The mistake I made back then however, was that I didn't use the Preserve option for the Cloth groups. If I understand it correctly, the selected vertices while preserved, ignore or resort to the previous modifier. Which means it's just rigged to the body, except for the parts that weren't selected.


Now all this is just ONE part of many body-parts. Not to mention that there's some severe clipping issues with the butt here. So it'll be a long way before I've got something cohesive. But that didn't stop me from making a few more tests with Gwen. You might have already seen them in the sta.sh, but here they are for those that didn't see it.
