SAW (2004) MOVIE REACTION & REVIEW! FIRST TIME WATCHING!!

Comments

Super late on this, but your reactions were great! I was also hesitant to watch Saw for a long time due to its torture porn reputation (the absolute worst phrase in the English language), but was very pleasantly surprised to find out that this one was actually....awesome and it had a substantial story. Then again, with James and Leigh heading it, how could it not? Extremely impressive that the budget was only $1.2 million roughly and they were able to get such quality actors. Since this was technically Leigh's first leading role, I never wanted to judge his acting too harshly. There were times where he was a little over the top and times where he really shined (his anguished screams at the end). Even though Adam had his dickish moments, he's one of the few horror film protagonists that I wanted to have a better fate. I think about the ending of this film A LOT. Tobin Bell as Jigsaw absolutely haunts me. I know that the puppet is kinda cheesy, but if I saw that little dude peddling at me on a tricycle, I'd be out in a millisecond. The whole idea of all the inventions/trials freak me out to no end, particularly the lovely Amanda facelift one. I really dig the fact that John isn't a cold-blooded killer. He simply targets perfectly healthy people that have given up on life and forces them to fight for it. That being said, most of the trials are built for failure. In a way, that makes the subjects strive even farther to keep a hold of their fleeting lives. In the sequels, that concept is pretty much forgotten, which is a huge bummer. This one is definitely the best, but the second one's pretty good. The third one is where it starts getting a tad ridiculous. I sincerely hope that Spiral is decent. The trailer wasn't the best so I don't have extraordinarily high hopes. Chris Rock has also never done a role quite like this before so not sure if I should completely temper my expectations or not. Excited to see it nonetheless! P.S. "This is the most fun I've had without lubricant" is one of the best lines in all of cinema. Change my mind. :)

Pretty much if you want to watch Jigsaws story up until the end you only need to watch 2 and 3, 2 is great and 3 is decent, after that he is only seen in flashbacks and convoluted scenarios
