Story Time! Printer Woes

I have two printers in my tiny office station. The BEAST for doing all the nice art prints and such.

As well as an old HP Photosmart that was a hand me down from a friend that i (as of the last handful of years) used for document printing.

This printer is like 10 years old. Some years ago it decided that printing on anything but regular 8.5x11 paper or 4x6 glossy photo paper wasn't going to happen anymore. That was mostly fine. It did mean finding another source for actual 8.5x11+ prints but i could still do my documentation and badges on it so that was still great. Once i got the BEAST, i switched to doing all my art prints on it since it's more stable to use. Forward to now and I suspect that the drive inside this HP printer is dieing/corrupt. Every time it gets used, something is off about it. Recently it started to not print magenta. Then the magenta decided that the page was only allowed to be magenta and wasted almost a whole new cartridge on a few sheets because it was determined to make everything PURPLE. XD 

Now every time i try to use it, at least one colour wont work, or the only colour that will, is yellow (and black.) 

The pages are getting dirty because of the magenta acting up (It's... pretty purple inside the printer) and it doesn't matter how many times the printer head is cleaned so i assume the ink tubes are the main issue but even just seeing inside of the printer is also very difficult without ripping it apart (which i've now tried and it just doesnt seem to want to come apart) and it looks like some magenta actually leaked through everything and through the plastic seams at the bottom of the printer, onto the surface it was on. yay. So its wet inside which doesn't help anything.)

Heck even the little screen has been glitchy a couple times with pixels not working/different colours/not loading. And well, today, it stopped parsing regular text. XD This poor printer. (I've factory reset it, checked drivers, etc. Nada. I think it's own drive units are just done so even if i could get into it reliably and fix any tubing issues to stop the leaks, i don't think it's even going to work after that.)

SO. Now I'm on the lookout for another printer that i can use to print documents and such with. Something cheap and easy. I'm thinking since i rarely need to use the colours on this printer (it's just required to have them all in there for "printer health") that i might get a small sturdy laser printer. Monochrome is all i need for printing documentation, labels, etc. Toner is also mountains cheaper than ink as well which is a huge bonus since the BEAST is about $200 for a full ink refill. (eesh.)

So this does mean that Etsy orders might be a little delayed since i can no longer print out the order documentation to send in the package without wasting really expensive ink to do so. So that's unfortunate. So I'm going to try to see if i can find something this weekend if all possible.

Anyways, i hope you enjoyed this little printer story. 10 years is a long ass time for a printer to last, especially an inkjet that doesn't get used as often as it probably should for "printer health". But it was a sturdy printer for so long and I'm still amazed that it lasted that long, being a second hand printer even.
