2022-11-15 04:31:54 +0000 UTCProbably my fave reaction so far of the Rocky series from JL. I never thought I could re-live Rocky V like it was almost the first time watching again. J cries at the same times I do. Grateful that yall did this one considering the many naysayers of part 5. Part 5 has very special meaning to me bc I grew up in the Hood and the whole street fighting aspect was close to home, being broke etc. Some people don't like that bc they wanted some larger than life opponent bigger than Drago. I respect they covered a story that's very real when an athlete loses their money. And although it wasn't the original intention, it does set up part 6 very well. And that Mickey flashback scene is worth it altogether. For JL, Tommy Gunn was a real boxer. Tommy "The Machine" Morrison. He was actually very good and held the WBO heavyweight title in 1993. Stallone loved him for the role. Unfortunately a few years later Tommy was diagnosed with HIV and sadly passed away at the age of 44 in 2013. Rockys son in the film was Stallones real son, Sage Stallone who also starred with Sly in the movie Daylight. Sadly Sage passed away in 2012 during the time Sly was promoting The Expendables 2, it was a rough press tour for Sly after just losing his son. The Rocky necklace was very prominent in part 5 as part of the story, Mickeys"fave ting on dis Earth" But you can see Rocky wearing it first in Rocky 3. And then Rocky 4. At Rocky V premiere replicas of the necklace were distributed as promotional pieces. Stallone himself has worn the actual necklace in real life thru the 70s, 80s and as can be seen in candid photographs of him back then. Sly offered the actual gold boxing necklace at a Rocky memorabilia auction in 2015 and it sold for 25K. I gave my brother who passed away a replica one many years ago. After he passed my nephew showed me that my brother always took care of it, it was still new in the box and he kept it on a hidden shelf behind his TV. That meant so much to me. I still got love for Paulie though lol Love/hate lol Thank you for this reaction. Best line in the entire series to me is the last thing Rocky says to end part 5. After his son says, "You're gonna love the Picasso" Rocky says, "Yea, well, I love almost everybody"
