First Time Watching Hacksaw Ridge!!!

I've just spent the last two hours ugly crying over here. I thought I saw this movie long time ago but I don't remember it. Desmond is a beautiful soul and you are correct, they don't make them like him anymore. A man who stood up for his beliefs even when most of us would give in to defeat. I honestly cannot think of a better way to start Memorial Day than to end with this movie. We should all thrive to be like Desmond.

Miss Gigglebox

a lot of older ww2 movies actually used real combat footage, a lot of the footage the way it was shot in this film made me think of that.

frost1977

this movie was nominated for best picture, IMO it should have won.

frost1977

the captain is the actor who plays jake sully in avatar, sam Worthington I think is his name.

frost1977

you can't do what desmond did with out a relationship with the Lord, and the lord having his hands over you.

Combat Veteran's all have a lot of baggage that no one understands except other veteran's of combat. Here is a video of the first Medal of Honor ever recorded (filmed). The man killed is John Chapman, and he actually was awarded two Medal's of Honor for his action's. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oKMjTqdTYo&list=TLPQMjMwNTIwMjMeRt7_docaKQ&index=7 There is also this song about combat, with statistic's about Veteran's and what they live with. It's called "The Wrong Side of Heaven" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_l4Ab5FRwM&list=TLPQMjMwNTIwMjMeRt7_docaKQ&index=8 Might give you some insight, and something to discuss with your Dad. My best wishes to you and Dad.

Never apologize for commenting, buddy. We wouldn't get gems like this. LoL I had heard Murphy's name before, but didn't know much about him. I always talk to my old man about stuff similar to this, but it always revolves around stuff from when he was in Vietnam. He told me about a medic who was there during his time who was also a conscientious objector (I want to say his name was Willie Kirkland, but could be wrong) who was killed when they were on The Hill. Fascinating stuff, just hard to discuss at times, as is to be expected.

Sorry to keep commenting. The most decorated soldier in WW 2 was Audie Murphy, who lied about his age of 17 to enlist. He was only 5' 5" tall. He won the Medal of Honor for taking on 250 German's with nothing but the weapon's on a busted Tank Destroyer, and hand weapon's. After the war he became an actor. Starring mostly in western's, but he also starred as himself in his life story in the film "To Hell and Back". It was a typical "Hollywood" war film though. Audie suffered from severe battle fatigue (PTSD), and carried, and slept with his Colt .45 service handgun. Sadly, he was killed in an airplane crash on May 28th of 1971. You and Blank have lots to talk about.

You should know that the ONLY soldier's that the President salutes first are Medal of Honor holder's. Another true story about war is "American Sniper". Be prepared though.

I'll be 64 on the 31st, and I don't know how old you are J, but I hate to see grown men cry. So, let's cry together my man.

Think of "Saving Private Ryan". There were about 2,500 men killed on Omaha Beach. There were about 12,500 men killed taking Okinawa.

Desmonds Father was awarded the Silver Star. The third highest award for bravery from the United States. He is also wearing the Croix de Guerre. The highest award for bravery from France. So, his Father was no coward either.
