Sad comment got deleted 😢 this is my favorite ST movie beside the there be whales here. 🐋

As a child of 1979 (guessing you're 77, cause I'm smartish! 🤓) I was especially allowed to stay up *for* Trek; sucks that you didn't have that privilege, frost. Nothing I said spoils anything, tbc. And I imagine you realize 1/4 of TNG is brilliant, 1/2 is fine and fun, and the remaining forth sucks like a tiberian bat. (I'm *most* critical of the things I deeply love. Don't get me started on my cat.)

You sorta have that in the very first TNG episode encounter at Farpoint part 1. Admiral Mccoy makes a guest appearance and refuses the transporter and makes Data fly him to the ship he is transferring to in a shuttlecraft. There is still a lot of TNG i have not seen, I missed it live i spent that night at my grandmother's as a kid and she only had 2 channels, the only time i could watch it was after the 10 o'clock news and i was not allowed to stay up that late.

Kinda want a video of McCoy taking an Uber now..

This is why you're Captain Frost and I'm Yeoman Gooding. I totes forgot that mirror, mirror was a transporter accident! Then there's Barkley from The A Team grabbin wormy folks and Mr Scott being stuck for 80 years whilst his shipmate goos away...just want JL to trust it. You only get f*ed to hell less than 0.1% of the time transporting. So... slightly safer than Uber.

in the prime universe, Kirk grew up with his dad getting to see him graduate from star fleet. Star Trek 2009 is an entertaining bit of sci-fi but it loses a lot of what Star Trek is, star trek gives you something to think about, it's smart. you will see that in the proper trek films going forward.

frost1977

don't forget kirk being split into 2 parts and thats also how the mirror universe was discovered a transporter mishap.

frost1977

Well...Kelvin history, to be pedantic. 😂🤗🖖

I remember seeing the newer one (2008?) in a movie theater, knowing that Chris Pine is easy on the eyes... but about 1 minute into the movie, all I could think was, "D@MN! Who is Kirk's DAD?!" Fortunately, "dad" was soon cast as Thor... and the rest is history. :)

frost1977, you're a Prince for selecting this. Thank you *SO* much, frost. JL going into Trek blind is pure magic; because knowin nuthing of the mythos (beyond Big Bang jokes), yet he's brilliantly smart and of course is more charming than keys to the plot...the further movies will be a helluva stellar trek! (I just finished, right now, watching this with JL and as a Trekker: 👏👏👏🖖.) And, JL: beaming is safe. It's only in this movie where folks get turned into goo. Totally safe through the other 1200+ hours of Star Trek...well...the thing with Riker...oh, never mind.

there is a potential spoiler in using the names of the 1st 6 films, it gives away something about a very moving moment in a different film. the new TV Series is kind of separate from the JJtrek films in that they are back in the prime universe and Enterprise, discovery, and SNW are set before the events of Star trek the original series, so they are prequels. where the Picard Series is the true sequel to Nemesis the last of the TNG films.

frost1977

kirk was a captain in the series. and got promoted to admiral and took a desk job, for 2 years during that 2 years the enterprise got redesigned. the look of the ship changed a lot. Starfleet in star trek models itself after the navy. [both of the actual models used for tv and film of the ship are 13 feet] also, the commander of a ship is always referred to as the captain regardless of actual rank. this is by far my favorite look for the ship at least on the out side, the look from the films with the OG cast, some of the others look a little better inside since movie effects and CGI got better.

frost1977

the directors cut does what J thinks, it cuts down some of those super long shots. it has a lot better pacing.

frost1977

So just to be clear...V'ger gathered all known knowledge and technology across the galaxy from all life...but never learned about windex? 🤗

vulcans like spock have 2 notable abilitys 1 is a nerve pinch to the neck that that knocks you out, the other is a mind meld by touching the face, reading thoughts and such.

frost1977

the actor who played decker was the dad on 7th heaven.

frost1977

i think J was sleepy watching.

frost1977

the new 4k directors cut picks up the pacing of the film, and polishes a lot of things they put it in theaters in 2022 and it was great. the theatrical version is really slow, but beautiful the music and artistic visuals. star trek is very thoughtful its not just pew pew pew laser battles.

frost1977

nex generation came out a few years after the 2nd star trek movie, TNG is about 75 years after the original crrew.

frost1977

the shirt colors all come from the original series tv show from the 60's, they change them for the movies. the color of the suit showed what department the crew man was in.
