Watched this movie sometime after it's release in 02 or so. Absolutely was mesmerized. I went and spent 100$ on the directors box set that came in a Frank metal box. I have honestly seen this movie atleast 100 times. When Frank told him the world would come to an end, it does. By him cheating death and living everything around him goes to chaos. Frank dies, his girlfriend dies and and little sister and mom die. But by putting the pieces together and going through the wormhole and traveling back in time and dying, he saves his family and the world. He sacrifices his life so everyone else's life can live on in the right timeline. Or maybe I got it all wrong lol and I'm talking out of my ass.

Oh man, I thought Kelly directed S.Darko, it looks like he just gets a credit for the character creation though (havent actually watched it). Southland Tales is one of my top 3 movies, and it isnt number 3. To know that other people have heard of it, let alone see it,.. amazing!

One of the reasons your buddies didn't explain it is that it defies explanation a little bit. I couldn't imagine telling somebody what it's about without spoiling it. I also couldn't imagine watching it whilst ill. Fun fact I'd never seen the director's cut before and whilst I'm a fan of Richard Kelly's work (more on that in a bit) I think the original cut is clearer, there's a few things in there for people who are more fans of the movie. I was wondering how long it was going to take you to spot Baby Seth lol. So anyways, yeah, Richard Kelly - he follows this up with a movie called Southland Tales which is one of my all time favourites but the cinema cut of that is a bit of a disaster of a movie - the whole thing was supposed to be a books plus movie experience that got heavily cut down by an editor to a studio acceptable movie that tears out a lot of really important context. Suffice to say Southland Tales was a critical and commercial disaster that ended Richard Kelly's career he hasn't made a movie since, though he supposedly has a movie in pre-production it's been sat there for years with no movement. I didn't originally have the books and the Cannes cut (I'm one of the like three people on the planet that has originals of all of them and they're going to stay in my collection) but I was a bit like you on this: I was invested and wanted to know more. I don't think that the best thing to understand this movie is to have somebody explain it in text form - there are a bunch of youtube videos that explain it fully. Oh, p.s. the cast of this movie is crazy. Oh, by the way, if you like Jake Gyllenhaal I highly recommend End of Watch if you haven't seen it. Also Southpaw which also stars another favourite actor of mine: Forest Whitaker.
