2023-02-28 23:21:52 +0000 UTCI've got no problem with advocating for one version over another. The problems come from those who make personal attacks against those who hold contrary opinions. I'm not a particular fan of the ABYSS Director's Cut. The additions don't automatically make the film better for me. Does that choice make me evil? Stupid? Just plain malignantly wrong? To those who claim it does, give me one good reason why your opinion matters more than mine when I am choosing how to spend my time. I like the LotR films and have watched both theatrical and extended versions several times. When I want my Tolkien though, I will always reach for my dead tree editions. The pure tactile experience of re-reading a favorite book beats anything Peter Jackson ever did. Factor in the pragmatic portability and convenience issues and it's an easy choice FOR ME. Watch what you like, read what you like, enjoy what you like. Advocate for what you like. And then accept that some people have other tastes and priorities.

She said he was the nicest fella ever; he even bought the crew massages.<p>An unknown Jack Black was also in the film and kept flirting with my friend until she yelled at him, "If you don't have any coke, just leave me alone!"</p><p>He apparently left her alone, so I guess he's a nice fella too.</p><p>Blade Runner! Oh, my stories are in the wrong place...</p>

Like many people, I expected Deckard to be much more of an Indiana Jones / Han Solo type flamboyant character. This kind of tech noir feel confused but intrigued me. Overall, they spend so much time on long panning shots, world building and atmosphere that it slows the pace to an arguably excessive degree. I don't agree with that but I understand those who do. It is a film that has a wonderfully detailed view of a grim future that improves on a second or third viewing and rewards the patient viewer.

That's a central theme, what does it mean to be human? is it just biology or is it the sum of our choices and experiences? Can we even define it and can we define it for someone else?

2023-02-28 02:14:51 +0000 UTCI have mixed feelings about Rutger Hauer’s acting. He’s not terribly versatile in his choice of roles but WOW! The man knows how to play to his strengths. If you needed someone who could speak articulately and kick a serious amount of ass, Rutger was a good choice. His skill in portraying intelligently crazed menace anywhere from “watch out for this guy.” to “OMG, he’s going to rape kill and eat me! MAYBE in that order!” Is just a bonus.

The original created its reputation..the "Director's Cut" which was a marketing ploy according to the Director who was not involved.. removed the Harrison Ford narration & "Happy Ending" but also allowed critics who got it wrong & backtrack on a movie that became a classic 10 years later. The Final cut is shorter version of Director's cut but the Director was involved ..with a few seconds added and tweaked special effects.

I'm with you, I don't think any of the cuts are enough to get riled up over as some do, but I do think the versions without narration are the better ones, for me at least. Def looking forward to see what you think of the reaction. I have been waiting for J to watch this for a LONG time.

Blank was more than happy to let me pick any edit I wanted and we briefly discussed opening up a poll to see which one would be the ideal choice. After a little more research and my discovery of a couple of reactors that were absolutely roasted for doing the theatrical cut, Blank and I agreed that the Final Cut was probably the best choice. With that being said, I don’t have a problem with the theatrical cut. In my humble, the voice over is unobjectionable and the other editing choices are not worth the furious keyboard bashing that seems to surround them. People like what they like and it doesn’t have to get more complicated than that. Thank you JL and Blank for your time and efforts. I look forward to watching this later tonight.
