Announcements/Update for the EOM Family from J!
Added 2023-06-12 18:38:44 +0000 UTCJust a quick video from J that he wanted to talk to you all about.

If Blue Velvet, then Lost Highway too! I think after Mulholland Drive he knows what to expect from David Lynch movies lol

2023-07-09 17:21:14 +0000 UTCBlank (and J!), this could be a great opportunity to expand the Patreon group. If people see that J is answering advice questions in his typical humorous style -- but the questions have to come from Patreon members -- I think that could be an effective way to induce people to join the Patreon membership and get a little more $$$ coming in. You could tie the membership permission (of being able to submit questions) to anyone contributing at least $5.00 per month.

2023-06-15 18:08:58 +0000 UTCI love your ideas for Wednesday (movie vault) and Friday (advice). They'd be really great to watch!
JPSillyBeast
2023-06-15 12:56:01 +0000 UTCI think that your other channel should be a variety channel! Mondays - you could come up with rankings of anything you can think of: art, countries, cities, clothing brands, states, colors, languages, comic books, oceans (ha!)... any possible subject you can think of; fun, random rankings Tuesdays - you could game live and comment Wednesdays - you could do "movie vault viewings", where all movies are at least 30 years old, to get some of the classics Thursdays - you could do music reactions, either videos or songs Fridays!!!! Okay, go with me for a second: allow Patreon members to submit "Dear Abby"-like questions, for which they're seeking advice. They could be real questions, or intentionally goof-ball questions. Each video could open fading from a dark screen to light, to the sound of flouncy classical music, and we see J sitting in a high-back chair, wearing a smoking jacket and holding a prop pipe, and he reads each question from a prop piece of paper (as if the questions were actually mailed in) and then he dispenses advice in his own signature style. He could answer 3 questions per "episode", then close out with his signature sign-off... fade to black, end scene . I think that would be hysterical. ;)

2023-06-13 22:28:28 +0000 UTCWhats up guys! Really really hyped to see what you guys got cookin! I wont be able to help you too much with names. I'm bad with that shit. But I'm actually writing to you most about the podcast. I think that's a smart idea that takes advantage of your strongest asset...your personality. It would give you an opportunity to cover numerous topics over a long period of time and not just give YOUR opinion on things, but also reach OUT to the audience who might want to call in and give their opinions, which would also be a great platform for you to get to know some of us a little bit on a more personal level. A 5 minute respectful back and forth with someone is a great thing and strengthens the community! I can tell you right now I would call in if the topic is something I have an interest in. And that leads me to something you said in your message: You hit the nail on the head when you said that we dont all have to agree. But we all need to be respectful. I dont care whether someone agrees with me or not, but having a mature and civil back and forth is how we grow as a culture and how people LEARN from one another. That's a beautiful thing, man So I'll just end it by asking: What sort of topics do you think you'd be interested in covering on a potential podcast? Maybe a mixed bag like movie mondays? Sports Fridays? Maybe more serious stuff like relationship stuff or an outlet for people to vent about work or family stress and discuss it? I dont know! The sky's the limit! I'm down to discuss it more and bounce ideas, if you guys are interested. Gotta go for now though. Peace and love, everybody. Lets all do the best we can, and if today sucked ass...tomorrow's another day to reset and keep goin 🙏🏼

2023-06-13 17:41:21 +0000 UTCI'd love to see a video where you rank your favorite comic book movies. I know you've seen all the MCU movies (and I assume most DC ones too), so I'd love to know your preferences on the genre. Also regarding the main channel I'll include some recommendations of classic films. It's an absolute joy watching you discover/analyze films like Godfather 1-2, Jaws, Dog Day Afternoon, The Exorcist, etc. It's so much fun reliving these classics (which many of us have seen countless times) through fresh eyes, and you always provide such great commentary. Suggestions: Psycho (1960), A Clockwork Orange, Schindler's List, original Star Wars trilogy (de-specialized editions), The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974), 12 Angry Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, Night of the Living Dead, Apocalypse Now, Taxi Driver, Blue Velvet, Network, Do the Right Thing, Goldfinger, and The Good The Bad & The Ugly

2023-06-13 13:42:05 +0000 UTCbeing quantifiable is what makes bolt objective my opinion doesn't change the facts. with art if someone thinks both the mona lisa and start night are ugly, and the 20 dollar landscape they picked up at Walmart is better than both, they are not wrong its the truth for that person regardless of how many others disagree. there is no right or wrong answer. the box office is the only objective thing I can tink of, or did a film win awards [which are based on someones opinion] and was it successful did it make money. and lets face it money is what its about for the studios. its called show business not show friends. though there is a point where money isn't really a fair comparison. like endgame vs say gone with the wind, too much time between them.

2023-06-13 03:44:22 +0000 UTCBut to contradict my own point, here's a quote from a mediocre movie: "trying to talk about music is like trying to dance about architecture." So yeah, there's that.

2023-06-13 02:38:41 +0000 UTCIT def won't be as much debate as much as lists, rankings, and the occasional review.

2023-06-13 02:37:51 +0000 UTCI hear you are you're right that comparing a finger painting to a Van Gogh is a fools errand and a lazy example on my part. But I would argue that comparing the Mona Lisa to Starry Night *is* possible and potentially interesting (if one is educated enough, which I isn't) and that, depending on criteria, one work is better than the other. Depending! The debate itself yields its own rewards, ideally. Bolt's running time isn't art, it's simply quantifiable. But there are aspects of art and film that are also quantifiable. It all quickly becomes opaque and ill defined and debatable, indeed...but that's really fun to discuss (for me, at least!). So I agree it's a fools errand to argue about Edward ScissorHands VS BeetleJuice...but a fools errand can be a lot of fun and maybe I'll learn something on the way! I've disagreed with you a bit before, frost, and I've always really valued your response! I can be irreverent, I know, but it's all in good fun (I deeply hope that's apparent. ✌️) My primary example: this discussion is fantastic! Subjectively, at least. 🤗

2023-06-13 00:24:39 +0000 UTCquigley down under is already on here i sponsored it last October, you just need your own copy of the film. just look under the western section.
frost1977
2023-06-12 23:51:40 +0000 UTCif it's your opinions it's subjective, you can't quantify personal tastes, there may be someone out there who thinks the apple is better than the shining. [i haven't seen either completely] but the person who thinks the apple is a better film isn't wrong for them it is simply their opinion is different than that of others. saying that Usain Bolt is a world record-holding sprinter that is objective.
frost1977
2023-06-12 23:46:16 +0000 UTCcomparing a kid's finger painting or a kid in school painting to the Mona Lisa is like comparing a fan film to something put out by a major student. But if you are on the same playing field the Mona Lisa and a Painting by van Gogh. it is completely subjective as to which is better. which is better predator or alien is completely subjective. or is Batman 89 vs any of the Nolan films, completely subjective according to your own tastes and how they hit you personally? just because someone's opinion may be different than the general consensus does not make them wrong.
frost1977
2023-06-12 23:40:10 +0000 UTCIMHO I think you should stick to movie reactions. As far as debating films - it just all subjective. Everyone has their own opinions and the world would be mighty boring if they all were the same. I've been a fan of "horror" films since my childhood in the 1950s. But greatly dislike the slasher variety. I enjoyed the Green Lantern film which most folks hate to include the star. I enjoyed most types of films. From what most consider sappy romantic comedy to super hero flicks. Though too many modern sci-fi relies CGI rather than good stories. Sequel mania and reboots rather than original stories. Grew up on westerns but they don't make many anymore. Quigley Down Under is a favorite and on you should consider. That should be enough rambling for now. Just keep up the good work. Your reactions always lighten my day.

2023-06-12 22:48:27 +0000 UTCI applaud the suggested modification of your channel. Last week I sent a couple suggestion's for Blank to look at, that were "short's" of about 15 or 30 minute's each. They aren't the usual full film platform J normally does. Just something for Blank to watch in his own time, or share with J for that matter. I've discovered film's here that I never would have elsewhere. Thank you both for that. I'm in favor of anything, as long as THIS channel doesn't suffer, or become some kind of "blended" material. There are ten's of thousand's of film's left to discover. If there's a separate channel coming, I'll decide then whether to join it or not based on the intended content. As for comment's, I only do that here in Patreon or in the You-Tube comment's to help J with his standing with them. Let's see what happens, I guess.

2023-06-12 22:05:04 +0000 UTCMy hat in the ring: yeah! Enjoying something is subjective but there is an objective element to art, which is debatable. Van Gogh is objectively better than the paintings I made in high school; aside from my mom there would be some folks that subjectively prefer mine (no accounting for taste.) The Shining is a superb piece of film, while the 1980 disco movie The Apple is a piece of poo. I LOVE The Apple and strongly dislike The Shinnin (no accounting for taste). But I enjoy debating about The Shinnin a bunch, and not as a negative-nelly, but genuinely. The Craft is fascinating to discuss! (The craft of the art of film, not the movie The Craft, I mean, which objectively I don't like. wait...🤔🤗)
g g gooding
2023-06-12 22:01:24 +0000 UTCIt's def subjective, but there's also a clear difference in the Mona Lisa and a finger painting. General consensus can be, at times, nearly as important to look at as individual subjectiveness to understand a film debate. I've always told J "what I like" and "what I think are good" are two VERY different arguments when it comes to film, because many opinions are based on personal preference rather than any actual analysis.
Blank EOM
2023-06-12 21:34:05 +0000 UTCa little BOX OFFICE education on film. how to know if a film makes money or flops. A film generally needs to do 2.5x to 3x the production budget. The theater keeps about 1/3 of the box office [that comes from some who was a VP with amc theaters a few years ago] you also have to add marketing. The 2.5x to 3x production takes all that into account.
frost1977
2023-06-12 21:27:08 +0000 UTCThere's not really a debate on film, its all subjective. Some people think the godfather is a perfect film, some think it is boring both are right. all art is subective. there are very few things about a film that is objective - run time, the box office a few things like that.

2023-06-12 19:23:54 +0000 UTCSome ideas for the new channel: - music, which Zachary Zabayle already mentioned - wordless comedy shows, like Just for Laughs - obscure short shows, like Croissant Man or Marcel the Shell - animal videos with the commentary turned off, a la Snoop Dogg's Animal Planet vids - cooking videos - especially if it's awful-looking - you actually cooking stuff would be great to watch too! - reading submissions from Reddit's "Am I the Assh*le" and offering commentary/advice - single episodes of old TV shows, like I Love Lucy, Gilligan's Island, MASH, Happy Days (although I'll be honest, I don't know how well those hold up - it might be really bad - but it would give you some more cultural references which is always useful) As for lists, you could put together "Best Deaths - Saw Edition" or "Best Scenes by a Specific Actor" or "Best One Liners." Or put up two movies for some head-to-head analysis, like "Heredity" (yes, I spelled it that way for you) vs. "The Conjuring" - which one scared you more and why. * Finally, one last request: since you're getting a new supplier for merch, please add some women's v-neck shirts that say "Key to the Plot." (Sorry for such a long post. I watch you every day, and want you to succeed. I'm happy with whatever content you decide to put out. Thanks for making my life better and more fun.) - xo JPSillyBeast (from Twitter)

2023-06-12 19:22:48 +0000 UTCTo echo sumthin JL kinda said: I'd love for more of us all to comment and discuss!
