First Time Watching Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan!!!

Comments

The last words Khan spoke, he was quoting "Moby Dick"(Captain Ahab getting revenge on the whale). That was one of the books Chekov saw in the Botany Bay container at the beginning of the movie. So, obviously Khan had that s*** memorized! LOL!

Nate Terry

he was also a heavy smoker which got his voice.

Saw this in the theatre with my brother and our parents. In the scene where the scorpion/bug crawled in the person's ear, BOTH of my parents grabbed a piece of licorice and shoved it into our ears (my Dad did my brother, my Mom did me). It was horrific and awful and terrifying and mean - and I totally would have done the same to my kids, given the opportunity. It's stuck with me for more than 40 years. Evil, sadistic people, my parents. A hilarious gag though, provided it's done to someone else.

I so remember that!! Spock did a lot of singing in the original series, especially in season 1. I wish they had incorporated that into the films. :) Leonard Nimoy had a surprisingly good voice. His voice did become more gravel-like in the films from aging so that is probably why he didn't sing in the films. William Shatner sang Rocket Man at the 1978 Science Fiction Awards show. It's on youtube. :)

Echo Moon

This is a car commercial with the 2 Spocks (back when there were only 2). It's fascinatingly funny and doesn't spoil anything beyond Wrath. If yall don't know why Nimoy is singing about Bilbo Baggins....you should look *that* up too. https://youtu.be/MVoDnGVkWCA

It is. Added the tags.

Is this a patreon pick?

Big Frank

Oh, frost.. Optimus Prime and the autobots deaths....I still haven't recovered. :'(

Echo Moon

I completely agree gg!! I think J would be a fan as well, he likes Trek (so far)-check, he likes cartoons/animation-check, he likes sci-fi-check. So according to the checklist, I think he would really like the animated series. :) But he's gotta watch the og series first, cuz it's awesome too.

Echo Moon

Apologies, sir. I appreciate your choices, a lot. Truly, sorry if I offended. ๐Ÿ––

WORD, Echo! The Cartoon's last 2 years of the 5 yr mission...opened up a world of not needing sets. They ran with it! Sad its mostly unseen, cause its top tier Trek!

g g gooding

I like that they were able to do more stuff in the animated series that they would not have been able to do in the og series due to limitations in reality. Animation opened up a whole new world where they could play with the aliens/worlds/histories etc. I always wondered if some of the animated stories were ones they threw away during the og series that would have been impossible to make.

Echo Moon

One of my all time favorite movies. My granddaughter currently has a gaggle of 13 year olds over for the afternoon so I'm hiding in my room watching this!! Thank you lol

Brenda Perry

the closest to this maybe more so where J is sucked into the movie and is quite through a lot of it is Ben Hur, his wrap up is by far the most different.

frost1977

James Kirk has a lot in common with james bond in the tv show.

frost1977

doesn't matter if its in the name its irritating on one i sponsored. it put the other films on the back burner for a while.

frost1977

So... "I just thought he'd walk that shit off" I nominate as my fav JL quote! Just finished... I've done 10 or so full watch alongs with yall...never seen JL quite this quiet. He was (pardon the pun) engaged! Wrath isn't the best Trek movie (arguably?)...its one of the Best God***ed Movies, period! It movies the shit outta a movie, even if ya aint seen Trek! Can't walk it off.

g g gooding

I mean, yeah, but the title of 3 is pretty clear tbf. Plus...I mean...HE''S the klingon? Really? I shant say more.

i was like 8 years old when i saw this it is one Spocks death is 1 of 4 death scenes in films that shook me as a kid. One of the others was Optimus Prime in the 1985 animated film when Hasbro gave all the TF g1 fans a middle finger by killing off all the old Autobots. Star trek the original series is really more of a family than 1 lead character. there is a chemistry between Kirk, Spock, and D. Mccoy [who is bones short for sawbones an old-timey name for a doctor.] the JJ trek films does not have the family feel between the crew. its lazy writing and not much chemistry.

frost1977

if J rewatch the First star trek movie he needs to watch the director cut, it has better pacing.

frost1977

touching but spoilers dude.

frost1977

I've actually got this in my library! One of the few Star Trek movies I can watch over and over again. Thanks y'all!

John Hampton

1 kahn is human not klingon, the colored shirts are in the TV show.

frost1977

there is about 80 years between Star trek / kirk and Next gen. / Picard

frost1977

The animated series is surprisingly ๐Ÿช’! Clumsy ScoobyDoo animation, but the writing and acting are tops. Plus: holodeck! (Recreation Room, i think they call it?)

g g gooding

the 1st movie is about 2 years after the end of the series. kirk got promoted in the time between the movie ad the end of the tv show and was given a desk job.

frost1977

This is the FIRST MOVIE i ever saw (that I recall). Third run at a cheapo drive in...so I was 5? Already liked Trek and especially Spock. My only memory of my father being kind and loving was him telling me after Trek 2, as I bawled my eyes out, "The movie made money, so they'll bring Spock back one day, I promise." Promise: fulfilled, Dad.

The morning after Nimoy merged with The Infinite...walked into the coffee shop and eyed the trekkie there..."Ship...out of danger?" I said. "No.. please...don't..." he replied, and then I did the monologue. We hugged, tears streaming out, to the Shop's confusion. Trekkers gonna Trek!

g g gooding

the kahn in the new movies is a sloppy second's nothing compared to this guy the original played by Ricardo Montalban. if you want to see him in other things watch the tv show fantasy island.

frost1977

I am hoping when J gets back to watching tv series that he will delve into Star Treks, beginning with the OS. I am rewatching them myself currently, just about done with season 3 and then will be moving into the animated series. I'm doing them by release order. :)

Echo Moon

for the back story on Khan, see The Star trek original series episode " Space Seed"

frost1977

amazing grace is the absolute best song ever given to humanity. A song even the Angels cannot sing. they have no understanding of what being saved is like. I will post the history of the song after i watch the reaction. lol.

frost1977

spocks death id one of the single best good guy death scenes in film history

frost1977

send the tribbles to J he needs lots and lots of tribbles

frost1977

i am not used to my pick coming this early it is normally the last week of the month. lo did you do theatrical or director cut?
