James Coulburn who played the commodore is a top actor from the 60's & 70's J saw him in one of the young gun movies. The kid gunfighter John Harding was a legit outlaw who killed his 1st man at 15, and killed one man just for snoring to loud. over 40 total. he was shot in the back of the head by John Sellmon SR in 1895 while playing cards.

2023-07-01 18:44:18 +0000 UTCI believe that early scenery is monument valley, as we go deeper into John wayne movies, the ones directed by John Ford, well john ford wrote the book on movies in monument valley only director i know of to win the oscar for best director 4 times. i can see a lot of that with the stagecoach was 100% inspired by the John Wayne movie Stage Coach. the dragging underneath and jumping on the horses.

2023-06-30 17:22:02 +0000 UTCOne could argue it's beyond Easter egg - and that the events of the TV show still "exist" from within the movie and Mel is simply Brett Jr and Gardner is still Brett from the show. So instead of being a remake the big twist is that the film is a sequel, of sorts. That's how I look at it anyway.

It is very similar in feel to Grumpy Old Men and even features Jack Lemmon. A perfect time to watch it too given that our political system - regardless of which side of the aisle you're on - is a bit of a sideshow right now. Another great James Gardner movie favorite of mine that is a bit more of a rom/com/drama is Murphy's Romance.
