First Time Watching One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest!!!

Comments

This is one of my favorite movies that I never tire of. Another one that I think you would like in the inspiration category is "Mask" with Cher from 1985. The original cut was my favorite one but is harder to find since the directors cut is mostly seen now. There is also a very special dog relationship in it as well. Much love.

This is my last comment, or comment's, on here. I'll start with a couple actor's you also didn't recognize. First is the Chief. Played by Will Sampson, who also played Chief Ten Bears in "The Outlaw Josey Wales". Then there was the character Mr. Frederickson. Who was accused of taking another persons Medication. He also played Buggie Ding Dong, the sniper in "Death to Smoochey". You said something about the saying "Colder than Hell". Here's a couple for your thought's on. First, it's "Colder than a Witches tit". Then there's "Colder than a well diggers ass". LOL Then there were a couple thing's you never heard before. Like "Put a bug up her ass", which simply means to piss her off. Or when McMurphy said "You should be out bird dogging chick's and banging beaver. Put another way you should be out sniffing out the women and screwing them. That's as delicate as I can put it. Lastly, I am going to say this qualifies as much as "Die Hard" does as a Christmas film!! LOL. Remember, they had a Christmas tree set up during the party scene at the end. Thanks for looking all you great Patron's!! Happy Holiday's too!!!

The book was one of the only required reading assignments i had in school and after all these years, it is one of the only assignments i liked and remember still.

Robin Ann Weber

yessssss!!!!!! my favorite movie!

Thomas E Johnson Jr

Her evilness is subtle. Unless you've dealt directly with gaslighters and manipulators, as I have, you don't see the red flags of those types. But she totally got off on creating the chaos we saw in some of the scenes when patients would go off. She knew how to push buttons, and the look on her face of calm and bemusement was her truly enjoying getting people to play into her hand so she never lost control of any of them. And even though she definitely knew McMurphy was not someone who belonged on that ward, she wanted to say he did, just to imprison him within that life. He was on to her, which was why he told Dr. Spivey that she "ain't honest"

I love how much Danny DeVito ends up flying under the radar (pardon the pun) when people watch this the first time. And I've always found this to be a great double-feature with Cool Hand Luke.

Don't feel bad Brother J for not realizing Nurse Ratched was the personification of evil. Your attention is divided between paying attention to the film and entertaining us with talking and engaging the camera so I can see how you could miss some stuff. But also, they made her character a bit subtle so if you don't pay attention 100% you can miss it. She was a calm quiet character (for the most part) and that makes a great villain. IMO the casting director did a great thing by casting Louise Fletcher to play Nurse Ratched. She did an amazing job. She earned that Oscar she won for this role. :)

Thank you Chris, great pick!! :)

It looks like you plan to re=watch this one. LOL If for no other reason than seeing Danny with a full head of hair!! I haven't made up my mind what to pick next month. Maybe another thumb's up film for you to see? Thank you for watching and reacting J!

Chris Baldwin

The show you're thinking of J is "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" frequently just called Always Sunny or abv. IASIP

Garrett

Hey the kid that killed himself is Brad Dourif, the voice actor for Chucky!!!

Big Frank

I think J was wondering about Brad Dourif aswell, he saw him recently in Mississippi Burns.

Big Frank

I have watched this movie many times and just learned Danny De Vito was in it this time. X3

Your welcome Big Frank!

As I understand it, this is one of only three movies in the history of cinema to "sweep" at the Oscars. A sweep is winning in these 5 categories: best movie, best director, best actor, best actress, and best screenplay. The movies were: It Happened One Night" (1934), "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975) and "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991).

bunnygirl71

There are so many great actor's in this that I was so excited to see if J would even recognize them!! I have yet to watch, but from the comment's, it's obvious Danny flew under the radar!! LOL I love picking classic film's for J to enjoy. Hopefully!! HaHa

Chris Baldwin

need a copy of this one. First time to watch for me as well.

frost1977

Haven't watched yet, but I would be curious to see if J recognized young Danny DeVito, young Christopher Lloyd and young Brad Dourif
