There were some parts where I said to myself "why am I watching this" especially the Ken fight scenes. It did have a good message behind it though. I think there is a little girl in all women that are grown now that wishes she could go back to her Barbie days.

2023-09-16 13:31:54 +0000 UTCI really liked the movie a lot, but it kinda started to fall apart for me around the time of the Ken fights and dancing. Not for content, but just in the execution of it. Totally took me out of it for a bit. I did enjoy the mention of Jamie Pressly, though it only reminded me how much Joe Dirt is getting destroyed in the latest poll. Oh well.

Saw this opening day along with Oppenheimer and that double feature was the best time I've had at a movie theater in years. Writer/director Greta Gerwig really knocked it out of the park with Barbie (her previous film, the 2019 adaptation of Little Women, is also fantastic) and it's great to see a summer movie with such a strong authorial voice breaking the bank at the box office. Same goes for Oppenheimer and Across the Spider-Verse.
