I havnt watched this reaction yet...I own a close to original version....the subsequent versions I have seen cut so much oit of a movie that already cuts random.....the meat of the story...the keys to the plot...we're cut .....I'm confident Blank knows the differences and wouldnt dirty the channels....with the wrong version!!

So glad you dug this movie! By far Tarantino's most underrated; many consider it his weakest film and I totally disagree (that would be Hateful 8 imo). Such a fun hangout movie that gets better and better on every rewatch. And Kim is SUCH a great character! That actress killed her part. Also Zoe Bell was the stuntwoman for the Bride in Kill Bill. All the crazy stuff the Bride does in-camera was performed by Zoe, so naturally for his next film about stunt people Quentin gave her a moment to shine in the spotlight. So glad you enjoyed it and I'm hyped for the eventual reaction to his latest film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

I wasn't expecting this, but I'm sure glad you did it. Fell in love with it when I saw it in theaters back in '07 and I can most likely recite this whole movie front to back (hence me watching this reaction without needing watchalong copy while I'm watching at work lol). Legit one of my favorite movies. "Death Proof" is basically part of a project between Quentin Tarantino and his film buddy, Robert Rodriguez, called "Grindhouse". They wanted to make a love letter to old, independent, horror films from the 70s/80s that used to play at grindhouse theaters, so they each made a grindhouse style film and released them complete with even fake trailers (Machete started a one that got popular enough for Rodriguez to make it full film, and if I'm not mistaken, that new horror film "Thanksgiving" was originally that some people been wanted made when Grindhouse hit theaters). If you want to see all of the original fake trailers, you can find them on YouTube. Tarantino wanted to go raw with his, no cgi, just kickass stuntwork so he decided to make it a slasher film where a crazy guy murders women with his car. In fact, the movie you probably thought "Death Proof" was is most likely be "Planet Terror". Both films have two different "vibes" regarding the horror genres they each chose, but both have the low budget grain style, and great in their different ways. Both films reside in the same universe. I truly hope that you decide to watch that one soon as well. It's a different kind of fun from this one but still great. You technically HAVE seen Zoe Bell before actually lol. Zoe Bell is a real stuntwoman and was Uma Thurman's stuntwoman for the Kill Bill films. And as you can see completely badass. She's done films, including other Tarantino films, as well. She was Lucy Lawless' stuntwoman for "Xena: The Warrior Princess". Kurt Russell was the perfect choice for this role. He just has this natural charisma about him (it very easy to see why they originally wanted him as Han Solo)and yes that man still has such a nice head of hair. I remember specifically noticing that when I saw this in theaters lol. Tracie Thoms (Kim) & Rosario Dawson's actually met a few year prior to filming this together. They were in main cast of the musical film Rent. Most of the main cast were the original Broadway actors of musical 10 years proor (Taye Diggs, Idina Menzel, Jesse L Martin, etc), except for them two and they became besties. In fact, they had both casually found that they were both audtioning for the same Tarantino film as besties and at their final audition for Quentin, they decided to audition together and basically did the whole second half of the film for him together. Tracie some years later co-starred in Zoe Bell's independent, gritty, fighting film called "Raze" with Zoe as the lead, and Rosario made a quick appearance. Tracie's role Kim was meant to be a female Samuel L Jackson. She also had to go to stunt school to learn how stunt drive. Her role in Rent started my Tracie Thoms crush, but watching her played Kim was how I fell in love 😂. Apparently, the speedometer in the white challenger the ladies drove at the end didn't work, so always joked about not really knowing how fast they were actually going after a certain point. Tracie Thoms actually was on a horror podcast a year or so ago and some of the things she talked about was her experience and fun behind-the-scene stories from doing the film (also her story about her first tike going to Tarantino's house to audition for Kim is hilarious 😂). She starts talking about Death Proof around 17:20 if you want to listen. I just so happened to stumble across it one day. The whole thing's a good listen though... https://youtu.be/ffd5ltguDtc?si=JHPqU7DZUGj7EUAP The diner scene is all one shot. It actually wasn't originally meant to be one-shot. They only had the diner for two days of shooting. The first day, they did different shots. The morning of the second day, Quentin approached the 4 women and told them that he wanted to make the whole it a one-shot but they only had the day to do it. The ladies basically said they got that shit and nailed it, even learning to time their movements whenever the camera moved behind them as they did it. The reason they can't just stop because if they stop too fast, Zoe is flying off that car. They going like 100 miles an hour. Even if they just slow down, he can easily just slow down right along with them. The dialogue in the whole final chase scenes weren't scripted. It was Quinten in a car behind them while there was a speaker in the women's car, and he just hurled lines at them through the speaker while they had to figure out was supposed based on how he said the lines lol. Last I checked, it's the 3rd longest car chase scene in film history. The two songs you specifically "Down In Mexico" & "Chick Habit" (my sister and her wife actually was going to use the former song for their garter moment at their wedding reception because of this movie, but we were partying so hard, everyone forgot all about the bouquet & garter lol). The lapdance scene was actually strategically taken out of the theatrical "Grindhouse" version and replaced with a grainy black title card that says, "MISSING REEL", before jump cutting to the parking lot scene that. The lapdance scene was put into the individual DVD release of the film. This movie suffered a lot of criticism, actually, especially from fans at the time. A lot of people didn't understand the concept of "Grindhouse" and what the movies were supposed to be at the time it came out. People went in expecting "Kill Bill" & "Pulp Fiction". Planet Terror actually got more positive reactions at the time (I really do hope you do that one too). "Death Proof", definitely in more recent years, has gained a lot more of a fanbase and appreciation now and probably has developed into cult classic territory (both movies honestly).

I think I saw this one in the theater when it first came out. But I can't be sure. I think it's the Clinton Tarantino movie? If so it's a real treat! I'm going to have to get a copy from blank though 🙂
