First Time Watching Last Action Hero!!!

Comments

First, I was wrong about Arnold being Governor when they made this. It wasn't until 2003 that he was elected. Sorry, my bad. I didn't get a chance to re-watch it yet, but you're right about the abundance of references. And many about film's he was never in! Like Humphry Bogart from "Casablanca". I think Arnold was very aware of his career, but also a serious student of all film's. The only other film that I would compare to this is Steve Martin's "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid". Except Martin used a lot of "stock footage" of film's from the "noir" period. It's on my list for J to watch. But, he should see a couple of the older classic's. Like "White Heat"; " The Lost Weekend" and "Dark Passage". The comment Arnold makes to himself, I can only assume, was meant as an inside joke about his own career. Kind of asking, or making, the audience make a snap judgement about him. I love this film. One thing that gets me is J's not recognizing actor's. Like the theater owner being Robert Prosky. Who J only remembers from "Mrs. Doubtfire". But he was in "Thief", only his second film, and in another of my pick's "Death to Smoochy". I'm stuck right now on what to pick for December. It marks my one year anniversary as a Murder Whistle! Hope this was helpful, or at least interesting. LOL Talk at you later G.G., and have a happy Thanksgiving!!

And *all* the references to Die Hard and Lethal Weapon - especially that this is from the director of Die Hard and the author of Lethal Weapon. Ive always been curious about the scene when Arnie says to himself, "I don't really like you; you've brought me nothing but pain." What does Arnie think of that oddly highlighted moment?

This movie is best seen after Amadeus. I'm holding out hope it'll eventually make its way onto the channel

Red velvet oreos sound good Brother J, but I got something better...Red Velvet snack cakes only found at Dollar General, they look like red twinkies but are not that brand and they are filled with cream cheese frosting! I can't remember the brand name but I could only find them at Dollar General and they only come in a two pack (not in a box) and you can only find them once or twice a year usually around summer and valentines day. Soooooo good and so soft, you don't even have to chew them but I recommend doing so. LOL I don't live in a state that has Dollar Generals otherwise I would send you some, but man those snack cakes were addicting, so if you can, try to find some...you won't be disappointed.

Says a lot when villains learn in all of 5 minutes that bad guys win in our world. LoL

Blank EOM

LOL! Was thinkin this.

The "take his shoes" scene...Charles Dance's confused horror at Our World...it kinda made me well up with tears. Which is to say: the scene worked.

This is one of those Guilty pleasure movies. It earned its 40% or whatever it is SPLAT on rotten tomatoes, But it is really fun to watch, the action genre poking fun at itself in a way. I would watch this again over movies that are probably better films but are Not fun to watch.

No problem about my calling you out bud.. I honestly could not/can not find that damn DVD!!! LOL It all worked out and Blank sent me a copy. All's well... I'll likely re-watch this tomorrow evening. Then we can dive in and give our opinion's. Sound good??.

Chris Baldwin

Dude's gonna get like 58 packages of Red Velvet oreos, ain't he?

Brian McG

I had fun just watching for the reference's; cameo's and missed voices. In the first half hour you missed the reference to "the Governor", Arnold being Governor of California when this was made; the Cadillac busting through the concrete overpass, like the Silver Terminator did in Terminator 2" and more. LOL I'll let you find the rest on your own. I think this is one is a great action film that is so under rated!

Chris Baldwin

Also Chris: I really wanna hear your thoughts on this wonderfully silly movie. After we can both rewatch it with J...please share.

Blank! Youre a god amongst men! I actually dug in my closet today to find my DVD... didn't...thought about requesting a copy...but you already sent me one. You're true blue, brother! (And cheers, Chris, for shouting me out!)

g g gooding

Thank you Blank! I owe you one...

Chris Baldwin

Sure thing. Sending now.

Blank EOM

Blank, can you send me this one? Like G.G., I can't find my dvd of this one. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Chris Baldwin

This is a good one.

Big Frank

Famous last words. "Will someone please send me a pack of Red Velvet Oreos?" 50 packages later...

Aceldamia

Rubber baby buggy bumpers! Hell, yeah. Crap, where's my DVD of this? It's here somewhere. Gimme a minute...I'll be back.
