ENTERPRISE s3e5 “Impulse”

PEW-PEW!  A ton of action and one more Vulcan-gone-wild plot doesn't add much spice to this zombies-on-a-spaceship episode.  The question is are they dumb zombies or smart zombies?  Next stop: the exapanzzzzzzz!

Post your Enterprise-related comments/questions here for consideration for the next Enterprise pod!

[Might be a quicker turnaround of pods in the next couple weeks.  For those who want to get their comments in, listen and post early!]

Given how often the “damsel in distress” trope appears across genres, it sure does seem like a male fantasy is being served, though the intimidation factor is a more modern twist, I agree. I think that spin is what makes the treatment of T’Pol feel SO off to me, in that she is supposed to be physically and mentally AT LEAST as capable as any human on board. They seem to go out of their way to weaken her (with zombie-itis, in this case), so that they can then rescue her. The subtext would seem to say: “See? Even a really strong woman needs a man to rescue her. Suck it, feminists!” That takes a special brand of fragile masculinity, and feels like a response to the “threat” of a strong woman. Now excuse me, I think I’ve sprained an eye from all this rolling…🙄

It's bonkers and not that much less bonkers in the more realistic MCU

I'm not a comic book reader, so I thought Andy was making random stuff up just to be ridiculous when they were talking about Captain America and Batroc the Leaper, and his costume in the comics. Boy was I wrong lol

I watched this episode back in February and now I can’t really remember it. But neither of you recommend watching it, so I listened along with you rather than rewatch. Made it a really great episode! “I took her shirt off even though every other person in sick bay has a full uniform.” “Understood.” Whispered: “Your shirt was killing you.” 😄 I really enjoy listening to tv with you guys. Question: What’s with the need to always put T’Pol in a storyline where she is made extremely vulnerable and needs to be saved by the men? It seems to happen a LOT. Is this a common male fantasy: the intimidating and seemingly unapproachable beautiful woman needing to be rescued? (Serious question.) . Also, please watch Firefly.
