The Cube That Got Away

Dear Solid and Material viewers.

At some point in the latest tutorial, one of the cubes managed to escape.

Trust me when I say this, I am just as surprised as you to see that this could've happened in bright studio light right under my 3D cursor.

Obviously I'll be launching a full internal investigation to come to the bottom of this. I just got in contact with the family of the cube, and they are absolutely devastated.

In the mean time, please have a look for yourself in the attached project file.

(But for real, thanks so much for watching this tutorial! It was so much fun to make, and I'm looking forward to see if anyone will create something weird with Rigid Body simulations!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!)

Awesome! Thanks for the insight. I have more to experiment w shape keys. 😃

Cool! Yes, I’ve worked with drivers a little bit, but I stopped being too dependent on them because it’s often not supported by renderfarms (which has often been a super bummer after spending a lot of time setting up a driver based rig!). It can also be a bit intricate to work with drivers, so it gets challenging to pick up a project months later and do changes. Shape keys are great though, and super intuitive once it ‘clicks’!

I’ll let you know after checking it out. I’m a motion graphics designer, so my interest is in animation and how to take my after effects knowledge and adapt it to blender. Anything you can touch upon regarding animation would be great! Currently, trying to understand shape keys and drivers. Do you use them?

Thanks so much Oskar, glad you enjoyed it! 🙌🏻 Please let me know if the blend files could be improved in any way. I’m curious - what would be the perfect asset to download after watching a tutorial like this?

I loved this part of the tutorial. Thanks for the project file and for including it in the story
