Today I’m excited to share VA-11 HALL-A: Acceptance, Not Submission, my first video of 2021, and the first work I've covered voted for by you guys!
By some miracle, I actually manage to hit my runtime goal for maybe the first time ever, though it was looking sticky for a while there. As always, I had more to talk about with this one than expected. I won’t spoil the video, but this was definitely one of those cases where I went into the video-making process feeling one way about the work and came out feeling another. I enjoyed each and every unexpected side road this script took me down, and I’m really happy with how it all came together.
My aim was to start the year off nice and easy as I’m still recovering from my last project, and in that sense, this really was the best pick out of the poll options. I hope I’ve succeeded in representing VA-11 HALL-A’s supremely cozy and welcoming vibe here, something I found I needed more than ever playing it again. As an aside, the narration in this one is very quiet due to my current living situation—that’s going to be a thing for a while. I was quite worried about it, but I actually think it matches the tone of the video well. I’ve put closed captions up if anything’s hard to understand, though (I’ll be *trying* to make CC available on or around release time for all my videos from now on).
It was scary going into making this video without a 100% clear vision or "point" I wanted to make, but I’m happy to say I think it turned out great even without my usual high-octane analysis (though I inevitably ended up drifting in that general direction). I really hope you all enjoy this little piece, let me know what you think, and I’ll be back shortly with this month’s podcast as well as plans for the next video! Take care everyone <3
