Creature Feature: Caipora, Loretober Day Six!

In Brazilian folklore, Caipora is a spirit who protects the forest and its animals from hunters. Its appearance is often described as a short, dark-skinned figure with a red mane who rides a peccary and carries a staff/stick.

In Kree's world, caipora look like small, red monkeys (similar to tamarins). Wise and mysterious, they know their way well around the southern forests, traveling for long distances on their spectral, pig-like steeds. They understand all the languages of the forest creatures but are mute themselves, appearing only when a creature is in unnatural peril, to help heal or lead hem towards safety.

Caipora are not outwardly violent, but they do take measures to discourage creatures, mainly humans, from disrupting the balance within the magical forests. These measures range from mischievous theft of important supplies, to placing false tracks that lead outside the forest (or in worse cases, right off steep cliffs).

A happy forest is one where caipora are rarely seen, but because of the actions humans in the south during Kree's time, caipora sightings have been more common than ever before.
