just so you know about Percy's resurrection in the campaign. his player, Taliesin Jaffe, was off stage in another room during the whole sequence while they performed the ritual. Matt said that it was his choice whether or not to come back, and Taliesin was waiting to see what his friends would say or do. so even if the ritual was otherwise "successful" Taliesin could have made the choice to stay dead, since the soul needs to be willing to come back. obviously he was swayed by the words of his party and them wishing for him to return. oh and another thing is about the song Scanlan sings at the end of this episode. that was the last song he recorded before going into surgery for his cancer. like i think it was only a couple days apart, so you can imagine his fear of possibly coming out of surgery not being able to sing anymore.

I love that you are watching Vox and giving it your true opinions! I just couldn't wait till the youtube so I bought the Collection! Your opinions are fully valid and I would most likely share them if I didn't watch the series. I do know they were so unsure if they were going to get another season that the chroma conclave end felt rushed. Going from killing 1 dragon to 3 is a lot! + all the other stuff. When they started with the series I'd really hoped the Chroma Conclave would get 3 seasons. It would have given us the room to breath. However! With the uncertainties from Amazon they made choices and I still think they did amazing. Someone else already pointed out a few things about the story beats so I won't repeat them. I am so happy the Whispered One arc gets 2 seasons because It truly needs it! Can't wait for the trailer reaction of M9 and am so looking forward to that series! I would love to give more reasons why I love the M9 but that will give too much away!

So Lance Reddick had passed before recording his lines as the Thordak/Raishan hybrid. They asked Levar Burton (Star Trek TNG) who was a good friend of Reddick's to step in. Burton's daughter has also guest starred on episodes of Critical Role.

The "German" book is a nod to a character you'll meet in the Mighty Nien series.

would love to watch you react (either as a livestream or videos) to this fan project where they rewrite the entire Hamilton soundtrack to cover the story of Vox Machina Chroma Conclave. It follows the campaign so there might be bits that don’t match the tv series but overall it does very well. Here’s a playlist to another fan who edited visuals from the show. If the link doesn't work try: " Cantata Pansophical Edits by Elle Crits " https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0U-cpbXImTfxDlHQnPc2DHXugZlhVDuS&si=X0U2FHp7HRziBEhr

Love hearing your reactions and thoughts! I subbed to the Patreon for Vox and I'm super excited for Might Nein

Your opinion is valid: if this was a fully original show where the story was being solely worked out in the writing room, then Percy staying dead may truly have had a more impactful story turn (genuinely, that would be a very interesting tragedy to explore for Vex, as well as its impact on the team, even tying in with why Scanlan really wants to stop adventuring and focus on being a dad. There is definitely an interesting potential AU fanfic that could pull more on those threads that you bring up, for sure). But, as others have pointed out, while the animated series can stray a certain length from the campaign, they are still bound by certain major points: namely, that Percy did come back and Ripley was never a major villain (in the campaign, she was killed seconds after taking out Percy, that WAS the show giving her more time/build up. And maybe I'm biased as someone who knew the campaign first, I never will get the unfiltered reaction to this show as a first encounter without that context, so it is very interesting to hear how certain beats do or don't land (and prove as proof against the tongue-in-cheek accusation of the actually campaign actually being a scripted show itself, as you point out, if ti were, it could use some editing sometimes). As for whether this will have consequences, I'm certain it will, and knowing what's ahead, I'm guessing its how they pull in certain character's turns of Fate in the upcoming seasons. In this show, as in the campaign itself, bringing a character back form true death is not easy and never free...

No need to be afraid to share your opinion! I totally get where you're coming from, and yes, the ending was a bit weird because they didn't know if they were going to get another season until the very end, plus Sam's diagnosis... so they had to change some stuff. I get that bringing people back all the time can cheapen death, which is why even in the og campaigns Matt makes them have a degree of difficulty with the rituals (and a chance of them not working which increases the more you die)...in DnD once you get to a certain level dying is more of an inconvenience, which is why they handled deaths differently in the show, Percy's death was still a very difficult ritual in the campaign but some great rolls managed to bring him back, so his story was not yet over and changing that, although impactful, would have too many ramifications to what happend next and would be a disservice to their overall story imo

Fun (?) Fact: the Scanlan Song in this episode was the last thing Sam recorded before starting chemo! He must have been in so much pain, but sounds absolutely amazing. And thinking about the uncertainty and fear they all were in while he sang those lyrics? Ugh, I don't know how he did it. I do see your point about the ending. It felt slightly rushed (just ticking off the lose ends), a bit anti-climatic, and honestly slightly tropey. I still appreciate what they did there. As others have pointed out Percy was resurrected the next day in campaign. And that was an emotional resurrection trial with a huge uncertainty if they succeed (Taliesin felt that Percys story was sorta done and already had a new character ready, but with Vex professing her love and Laura rolling a Nat 20 he felt that Percy would absolutely come back for that). I do apreciate what they did in the show though. Having Percy stay dead for so long was an absolut gut punch, a "the fuck?" moment for us Critters, and it gave the characters the opportunity to stay in that grieve and process and grow.

Percy didn't stay dead for more than a day in the campaign. I personally don't like the way they did it in the show either, but trust there will be stakes by the end. The thing about a D&D campaign is that all the players *will* try their hardest to have a happy ending. And Taliesin gave them the chance to convince Percy to come back. Laura rolled a Natural 20 on persuasion and so Taliesin agreed to bring him back.

Catherine Jones

Very fancy fit, well done. Thank you for introducing me to this series. For a second, I was terrified that Percy's soul would settle in Vax's body, so neither of them could have the person they want to be with or something like that.

Kory Misun

There is a huge part missing. Percy never stayed dead in the campaign. He came right back like Vex. Him being gone that long never happened in the campaign. I feel like it would be a great disservice to the show to somehow write him out of everything that is to come. And the ripples that had would make in all their other shows.
