Herniated disk - OUCHIE!

Hello, my beautiful Patrons.

I had to go to the emergency room today, due to extreme pain in my lower back, right leg, and foot. This pain started about a week ago, and at first, it was diagnosed as a pinched L5 nerve, but the ER doctor that saw me today confirmed that it's more than that and that I do in fact have a herniated disc.

The pain is NOT FUN... and there's no miracle cure for this. Just rest and constant, small bouts of exercise and stretches to try and ease out the tension in my leg. Sure, drugs help mitigate the pain, but I'm not comfortable sitting, standing, or lying down for very long. It's all very awkward and annoying.

I think this is my body giving me some signs. You know me, I tend to think of myself as an art machine, but the truth is I'm only (sadly) human! LOL!

The ER doctor told me to ease up -- and he was not the first doc to tell me this sort of thing. So, my quest for balance in my work-life continues. If only I weren't so CONSUMED by my need to create my art! LOL!

I'm letting you know this because I've been kinda quiet these past couple of days, and I just need you to please bear with me.

I still have many goodies to come this month -- art that was completed before I F**KED up my back -- and slowly but surely, I'm sure things will fall back into place with my body, and then I can reassess how I'm doing things.

For now, I promise you, I'm gonna do the best I can to heal up properly and to rest as much as possible. And coming up this week, I'll be releasing the next HOMOCLIX ART for you to enjoy. I'm NOT abandoning you, I just may not be quite as prolific while I deal with this health situation.

But don't you worry, I'll be back on my feet in no time. Ah, the power of positive thinking, right? LOL!

Much love to you all -- you are ALL amazing and I appreciate you TONS!

Thank you so much for the very wise words, my dear friend. All such good advice and you can be sure I'm doing all of it now, more than I ever have before! LOL! Je t'embrasse super fort, mon cher ami! Merci encore!! XOXOX πŸ€—πŸ˜˜πŸ’–πŸ˜Š

Patrick Fillion

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement and comfort, dear JT! It's all greatly appreciated. Also, please know that I completely understand that everyone's "real life" takes precedence and I don't hold it against anyone when they can't always comment as much as they would like to. I am grateful for whatever you have time to write. It makes me so happy to know that you're still enjoying my work even though you can't be "as present" as you once were. I truly wish you (and everyone else here} well in life and in everything you do and go through. As for myself, I'm hanging in there. Healing from this type of injury is a very slow process, but I'm doing everything in my power to get better/ I'm following my Physiotherapist's instructions to the letter and taking many breaks while I work, just to move and rest my body. I'll get back on my feet at some point, I just need to be patient! LOL! That's a toughie for me, though... patience isn't something I have ample quantities of, not for this type of thing... but I'm working on it. Anyhow, thank you again for all the love and support. It's HUGELY appreciated. Tons of love right back at you!! XOXOXOX πŸ’–πŸ€—πŸ’–πŸ˜˜πŸ’–πŸ˜Š

Patrick Fillion

Oh my gosh!?!?! If you don’t mind me asking, how are you doing now? Are you feeling any better? That’s really really sucky (to put it mildly). You work yourself raw making all this incredible art for us, and I hope you are able to put just as much effort into healing. It’s been so long… I miss the old days when I had the time to really appreciate all the nuance of each piece and then craft a witty reply. Even though my circumstances have changed, I want you to know that I still rave over everything you’re posting. If you’re not able to do as much for a while I think we’d all more than understand, and love you just the same! Sending you all the love and best wishes, Julian

JT

There're so many things we should have been told when young artists, ha! I'm so pleased to read it gets better. One thing that works for me too is WALKING, like daily, it's a very good exercice, simple, and helps a lot. Plus stretching but I see you're very aware of that hehe! Take breaks more often too, the drawing table won't run away, I promise! Mille bisous, repose-toi et dΓ©tends-toi !

CLX

Thank you so much, my dear Thomas -- I am definitely working on it. It's slow going, but I'll get through it for sure! Much love to you!! XOXO 😊😍❀️😘

Patrick Fillion

I'm still working at healing. The Physiotherapist and Doctors all tell me that it can take at least a couple of weeks to regain much of my mobility... it's starting to get better, but my back and, believe it or not, my right ankle is still in a lot of pain. I manage it with stretching, exercising, and prescribed painkillers, but I won't lie -- I'm really looking forward to being back to my normal self! LOL! En tous cas, you are quite right, mon ami -- we just stretch and exercise as often as possible to keep our bodies from complaining! Doing art is quite difficult on the back and body overall -- I wish someone had warned me about this when I was a kid! HA HA HA! Thanks for the kind words, my friend. Gros bisous a toi!!!! XOXOX πŸ€—πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜˜β€οΈ

Patrick Fillion

Oh man I hope it's okay now & it won't happen to often. I have lower back issues from time to time too: it's necessary to stretch, exercise when you can, even if you don't want to, it has to be done, take care of your body my dear Patrick! Much love & sweet thoughts XOXOX

CLX

Yet another challenge for you to master. BE WELL! You are much Loved.

Thomas Polk

Thank you so much, my dear Tom. I really appreciate your kind words and concern. This injury is definitely forcing me to find balance in my work-life... I think I've just become accustomed to always doing more than I should, and I've kind of forgotten how to take it slow. But I'm having to adjust now, and I'm confident I'll find a more organic way of working and of taking care of myself. It's essential, I think. Thank you for the big Hug, Sweetie. Tons of love to you!! XOXOX πŸ’–πŸ€—πŸ˜˜πŸ’–

Patrick Fillion

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this my dear friend. it's important not to verwork yourself, even though we enjoy our job a lot, but it's good to give ourselves time to rest too. I hope with time you'll feel better and you can find a good balance with work and life! sending you a BIG hug! (not so big to hurt your back though haha)

Tom Cray

Thanks, Patrick! I definitely agree that rest is helpful right now! LOL! I'm doing my best to take the downtime I need to get back on my feet. Smooches! πŸ˜…πŸ’–πŸ€—πŸ˜˜ XOXOX

Patrick Fillion

Thank you so much, LlamaLlama. I really appreciate that. I promise to do everything I can to get better quickly. Much love to you! XOXO πŸ˜ŠπŸ’–πŸ˜˜πŸ’–

That's so sweet -- thank you so much, dear Phoenix! I'll do my best to get back on my feet properly so I can keep drawing for you guys! SMOOCHES to you! XOXOX πŸ’–πŸ˜ŠπŸ€—πŸ˜˜

Patrick Fillion

Awww -- thank you, my dear Valentin. You're so sweet. I appreciate the love, my friend, and I promise to take good care of my health. I want to draw for you guys for years to come and the only way I can continue to do this is if I'm healthy, so I have to make sure and get better. But again, your love and support really mean the world to me and it's all greatly appreciated! Much love to you!! XOXOX πŸ˜πŸ˜˜β€οΈπŸ€—

Patrick Fillion

Hello, my dear Jen! Thank you so much for the kind words. You actually TOTALLY NAILED IT on the head -- this is doubly hard because it's preventing me from working at my usual speed and efficiency, and that is driving me NUTS! But there's really no other choice. This hurts like HELL and if I want to get it under control, I have to dial things back a bit and follow the strict instructions of my doctor and physiotherapist. It's also really difficult because the drugs I'm on to mitigate the pain have me super sleepy and they make it hard to focus... but I'm managing. I do a little at a time, and then take a light exercise break and try to work the stiffness and ache out of my back. All that to say that you're quite right -- this is tormenting me in more ways than one, and I really do treat this Patreon campaign very seriously -- and I treat my Patrons seriously, too, and I always want to give you all as much as I can. I guess right now I just need to figure out a way to do that without hurting myself further and continuing to get better. But honestly, your support and the support that everyone has shown me helps so much. I feel really loved and that means the world to me. So again, MASSIVE THANKS for the very sweet message and for all the love. Great Big Hugs + Kisses to you, dear Jen! XOXOXOX πŸ’–πŸ€•πŸ’–πŸ˜…πŸ’–

Patrick Fillion

Thank you so much for the very kind words, dear Chris. I'm so sorry you also know how bad this pain is. It really is NOT fun in any way shape or form. But like yours;f, I'm also doing the exercises I need to to get it all under control and to get back to feeling healthy again. I know it will take some time, but I'm confident that if I can follow the instructions of my doctors, I should manage to get it under control. Much love to you. Thanks again! XOXOX πŸ€—πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜˜β€οΈ

Patrick Fillion

Thank you so much, my dear David! I promise to do all I can to get better! Love you, my friend! XOXOX πŸ₯°πŸ˜˜πŸ’–πŸ€—

Patrick Fillion

Awww -- thank you so much, my dear Andrew. I truly appreciate the love, my friend. SMOOCHES to you!!! πŸ˜˜πŸ€—πŸ˜ŠπŸ’–

Patrick Fillion

Thanks so much, Stratavos! I appreciate the warm wishes. I've been doing a number of different exercises that were recommended by my Physiotherapist, and they are helping, but I think recovery is a long process. I'm doing things like Cat Cows, prone extensions etc... I'm keeping positive and resting as much as I can. I'm confident things will heal up the way they should as long as I do what I'm told by the medical professionals! LOL! Much love to you! XOXO πŸ˜…πŸ’–πŸ˜˜

Patrick Fillion

LOL! Thanks so much, Dontwain -- I promise I'm taking good care to follow my doctor's instructions and I'm doing as much resting as I can! Thanks for all the love! I really appreciate it! XOXOX πŸ˜˜β€οΈπŸ€—

Patrick Fillion

Thank you so much, dear Jason -- I really appreciate your kind words of encouragement and love! I promise to take care to get better soon. πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ˜˜ SMOOCHES to you!!

Valentin Erkers

Tom

Take care and gentle hugs!

Cary Summers

Jeez Patrick, β€œouchie” is either a bit of an understatement or you are the toughest person I’ve ever known! A herniated disk is really painful. I know this probably really bothers you, not just because of the pain, but here on patreon you have an extremely high output of high quality art. You mentioned in another comment that you don’t treat patreon like most artists do and that’s true, your patreon is more like a high quality membership site, with the exception that the content is entirely unique and life changing in many ways. I hope your recovery is as painless and quick as possible. All the love in the world to you and the biggest, yet softest, hugs and kisses!

Jen

Oh ouch yes. I know this pain for many many years since I'm 18 now so for quite few years now... Chris

OMG!!! :O Take good care, mon bon Patrick!!!! XXX

David Cantero

It all sounds very painful, and uncomfortable. Please look after yourself. Have a virtual πŸ€— from me.

Andrew Brown

you've already been trying to work with a standing desk and/or switch to an exercise ball as a seat? these are some options that can help for changes. Regardless, here's hoping things resolve for you soon. What are some of the stretches that have been advised?

stratavos

Oh No Patrick my Littlee Poopsie” you need to take care of your self. Wishing you well. Don’t make me come over there and make you rest

Dontwain

Rest up, and rest easy. This devoted fan is not going to desert you. Your health is the priority. Sending you warm and healing thoughts Patrick ☺️

Jason

All kidding aside, please take care of yourself πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

Phoenix Monroe

I truly appreciate that, Steven. Thank you so much. I promise this time I am really listening to my body and making sure I do what I need to do to get back on my feet and stay healthy going forward. Much love to you! XOXO πŸ€—β€οΈπŸ˜˜β€οΈ

Patrick Fillion

I promise. I'll start slowly! Besides, I don't feel much like I can tackle it head-on right now anyway! LOL! Gotta start healing up a bit first. XOXOX

Patrick Fillion

Thank you so much, Corie. You're so sweet. I promise to do all I possibly can to get back on my feet PROPERLY and to be mindful of what my body is trying to tell me. Thanks for the love, my friend. Great Big Hugs + Kisses to you!! XOXO πŸ’–πŸ˜˜πŸ’–πŸ˜˜

Patrick Fillion

I'm sorry to hear you've experienced this too, Kenneth. It truly is NOT FUN! But I appreciate your advice, and I've definitely taken to the hot baths and massage. I promise to keep working on getting better. Much love to you -- thanks again so much!! XOXO πŸ’–πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜˜πŸ€—

Patrick Fillion

Patrick = take care of yourself, first. We can all wait for the ideas in your head to come along!

Steven Hennessee

Be careful and don't overdo the yoga at first! Ask me how I know XD

Thomas G.

Thank you so much, dear Karan. That's very sweet and I appreciate it very much! SMOOCHES!! XOXO πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜˜πŸ€—πŸ’–

Patrick Fillion

Oh, baby.... I'm so sorry to hear that you're laid up right now. I genuinely hope you feel better soon!

Corie McLaren

HA HA HA! Thank you so much, dear JohnR! I promise I will take good care to get better and to be more mindful of my body while I work. I wanna stick around for a very long time, too. XOXO SMOOCHES! πŸ’–πŸ˜˜πŸ€—πŸ˜Š

Patrick Fillion

Thank you so much, my dear David! I truly appreciate it. And I promise to do my best to get back on my feet properly and to take be more mindful of the things my body is trying to tell me. Much love to you!! SMOOCHES! XOXOX πŸ˜…πŸ€—πŸ˜˜β€οΈ

Patrick Fillion

Thank you so much, my dear Michael. I promise to do just that. I haven't been great at doing that sort of thing in the past, but this time, I don't really have a choice. I better do it! HA HA HA! Much love to you, my friend. Thanks again so much!! XOXO πŸ˜…πŸ˜πŸ˜˜β€οΈ

Patrick Fillion

Very wise words, Thomas -- thank you! In fact, you pretty much echoed what the doctor told me today. I'm setting a timer now to remind to take movement/stretching breaks every 20 minutes. I think that will be a good way to start -- and yoga is something I've wanted to do for a while, Seems like a good time to start. Thanks again for your kind words and great advice. I wish you all the best in your continued recovery too. πŸ˜ŠπŸ€—β€οΈπŸ˜˜

Patrick Fillion

I've had them. Incredibly painful. Massage helps a lot. Hot baths relax the back. Sitting at desk makes things worse. See if you can get daily massages

Kenneth Sherrill

Thank you so much, ScHarrison. I will do my best!! XOXO πŸ˜…πŸ’–πŸ˜…πŸ’–

Patrick Fillion

Thank you so much, dear Phoenix. I HEAR you, I really do. I think what's most likely to happen is that I will finish up September with the art I've already prepared for the rest of the month, and then October might just be a lighter month. I'm always so obsessed over delivering SO MUCH STUFF... but I think that most artists with a Patreon don't treat it quite the same way I do. They tend to view it as a place where they share what they've created and are working on rather than a monthly installment of this many comic pages and that many pinups, etc... You're right, a herniated disc is no joke, and believe me I ain't laughin'! LOL! I promise to treat this seriously and to properly balance things for my physical well-being and creative well-being going forward! Much love and thanks to you!! XOXOX πŸ’–πŸ˜˜πŸ’–πŸ˜˜

Patrick Fillion

You are in my prayers! Take care ! ❀️

Karan Bains

Yes, please take care of #1! Selfishly, we need you to have a long career πŸ˜‰πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

JohnR

Oh no! Do take care of yourself and don't rush back into things. We're only ready when you are, maestro! πŸ€—

David

I have 2 of those in my lower back. Rest when you can and I found light yoga helps. The thing is rest but keep it moving. It gets so sore when it just sits then you suddenly move. Sadly it never really goes away but it gets better and more tolerable (I never opted for surgery, too nervous about it)

Thomas G.

You need to take care of yourself first and foremost Patrick. Take all the time you need to rest and heal ❀️❀️❀️❀️

Michael Mendez

Get better, Patrick πŸ«‚

ScHarrison

This may not be easy to hear Patrick but you need to listen to understand....TAKE TIME TO HEAL PROPERLY! I'd recommend finishing up this month then taking October off. I get it, it's halloween and Jack-O and your obsession to produce. BUT I'd rather wait a month, you heal, and things go back to normal than you push yourself and we end up going months without your beautiful men. A herniated disk is no joke, while you may not like it , this is an order, REST! Be well πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

Phoenix Monroe

Thanks, Johnnie. If only I could REMEMBER that! LOL! But I promise to try and do just that this time around. SMOOCHES, my friend! πŸ’–πŸ˜˜ XOXO

Patrick Fillion

That sounds awful. Your health is far more important than anything else, so take whatever time you need.
