Thank you for the re-upload 🥰😍 I'll try to give you some piece of informations for you to understand why the album is this way. She did the album in memory of her uncle, a gay black man who died of AIDS in the 2000s (not sure of the date...). He was the one managing her in her debute and doing her dresses. The entier album is a tribute to the black culture especially during the 70-80's with all the "houses" where black LBTQmembers gathered to live their lifes. That's why the sound of the album is a lot dancy and sounds like a dancerfloor. It is because it is made for it 😅 Moreover, she wrote and produced it during COVID too and she wanted people to dance a lot on her tracks. I guess that we, as white people, can not understand every part of this homage to the black culture she is celebrating - not meaning it is bad, she embrace and creat a masterpiece of it. 😆 Hope it was a bit helpfull and brought answers to some of your questions/comments :)

Joined patron just to see this reaction!! I totally get where you’re coming from about the soundscape of this album. First time I listened to it I thought the exact same thing too, however recently I went snow skiing trip and had this playing album in my headphones (basically because I had no way to change the songs) and I realised that the albums consistency is its greatest strength. You suggestion of escapism is exactly what it felt like, as if time itself was melting together of sorts. I agree with other fellow patron members when they suggested Lemonade as an album to react to next since it has greater variety and is WAYYYYY more personal than Renaissance, but regardless as a dance/house, pop, soul music fan, this is perfect for me. Maybe the visuals (a feature length music video for the album) could help you see things differently.
Also one last thing, does the second verse of COZY scratch and itch for anyone else?!?! It reminds me soooo much of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat!!!!
Does anyone know if Blake has musical theatre reaction videos or if he will ever do them? ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I think you unintentionally hit the nail on the head multiple times lol. This album was made in the style of a continuous dance playlist, and as a love letter to the LGBTQ+ community (the album is dedicated to her uncle who was a gay man, he unfortunately passed away when she was a teen due to HIV complications). She featured, sampled, and borrowed from a lot of black queer artists, including elements of Ballroom culture. She also credited everyone and everything that was sampled and/or featured in the background, which is why there were so many writers on certain tracks. Beyoncé says she just wanted to give people a project to dance to nonstop, given the chaos the world has been through in the last 3 years. It's all about escapism, just like you said. In regards to your personal thoughts, I definitely think the disconnect is also a matter of personal preference and perhaps being unfamiliar with some of her references. I've always listened primarily to Pop and R&B, so I'm sure I just hear these songs differently in a lot of ways. This album is actually a complete 180 from what she's been doing the last 20 years, which is why it's causing such a ruckus. I think you'd really enjoy her previous album LEMONADE, which is a totally different sound and has more of those hybrid elements you were searching for. Sorry for the long comment, but I just wanted to share my thoughts. As a Beyoncé fan who grew up on her music, thank you so much for taking the time to do this reaction! ❤😊
