Doomscroll: Vivek Chibber II

This is a subscriber’s only episode. Professor Chibber and I dive deep into the history of the left and explore its transformation over the course of the 20th century. After the cultural turn, the march through institutions, and our current media environment, we ask — where did things go wrong?

You can watch the public episode on YouTube.

Okay I am an office worker for a big company. I had one of the best opportunities of being able to experience class mobility. The hardest part for me is convincing the folks that would best be helped by universal healthcare, labor rights, education, etc. that what I am trying to do or the things I am telling them is the truth. The furthest I have made on the interests and aligning a person has been this, "What do you think a government's responsibility is to it's society or people?" 9/10 we end up aligning. I just don't know how I can get a foothold in my area against the popular identity politics.

Unrelated but your conversation about art at the beginning reminds me of the Intro to Vis Art class I took just around the same time 2016-2017 at UC San Diego as a requirement for the occupational therapy graduate program I'm in now. I had a TA from the East Coast that seemed pretty concerned with the growing political divide at the time and had us do an art project taking the perspective of the opposite side, and I was a shithead and made a Bernie Bolshevik Molotov cocktail because I getting into left anarchism and libertarian Marxism and was like "yeah so these guys believe the opposite" and he got a little mad at me over it because to him it was "the same thing" and "not what he meant." He's a Trump supporter now last I checked on Facebook ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
