Retronauts Episode 273: Years in Revue: 1980/1990

In keeping with our grand tradition, Retronauts once again takes a trip 10/20/30/40/50 years into history to mark the beginning of a new year, making note of all the important stuff that happened decades before the present. And, as you might expect, we did not get all the way through these years—despite the fact that almost exactly nothing of significance happened in 1970.
Or should I say, Nutting of significance. Certain people just would not let that one drop....
Naturally, you can expect a follow-up (or two) to this episode soonish. Sooner than we managed to churn out the 2009-in-Revue episode last year, anyway!

Fantastic episode. Just to chime in on Color Dreams, the spelling of Color may be a subtle hint that it wasn't a British company :)

2020-01-16 17:57:18 +0000 UTCGreat content as always lads, but you 'missed a spot' when it comes to Acorn in the 80's. The BBC Micro, centrepiece of the National Computer Literacy project, was designed and manufactured by Acorn. They were in every school when I was tiny, so it occupies a cultural space roughly parallel to the experience US kids had with the Apple II in classrooms. The earliest iterations of the ARM cpus were actually developed plugged into the Tube port on a Micro. The Tube port was the genius idea to allow direct bus access for a totally distinct processor family, so you could install a Z80 alongside the main 6502 and execute code on either, hence it was perfect for ARM development.
