Episode 301: Etrian Odyssey

Hey everyone, happy Friday! I know it's a happy Friday, because gosh darn it, there's a podcast about Etrian Odyssey in your feed. If that doesn't do the trick, I don't know what will.

This is another banked episode recorded in The Before Times, featuring myself, Bob, Jason Wilson and Kat Bailey together in the studio—well, mostly. (Jason was apparently prepping for the current state of things and Skyped in.) It's pretty rare to be able to pull together a four-seater show about what is a fairly deep-cut RPG and be able to have a collectively knowledgeable conversation about it for 90 minutes, but then, Etrian Odyssey is a pretty rare kind of game. Sure hope the series isn't gone forever... but even if it is, at least we have our memories, preserved in podcast amber forever.

Just catching up with this episode. Great dynamics in this one! Really nice explanation of the genre and the game for those, like me, who are pretty unfamiliar. I just ordered a copy of IV from eBay after hearing Jeremy say that’s where he’s recommend people start. This ep certainly has me wanting to play the first game, though.

A delightful and engaging episode. I'm finally giving the demo of IV a go. I didn't know that I needed this game!
