This Month In Retronauts: June 2024 edition

Hi folks, Diamond Feit here, bidding farewell to June and Pride and sensible weather with this, our latest community podcast. Stuart Gipp joins me for an incredible amount of news items, Steam Next Fest demos, precious comments from you, and a surprise update on Hall & Oates. It'll all make sense once you press play, I promise. As always, we are grateful for your ongoing support and I hope this 2+ hour podcast finds you well (and properly hydrated, it's gettin' hot).

Without even looking, because I haven't bought or played it yet: Sleeper hit of the year, EDF 6.

Me: *casually listening to video games podcasts* Stu: "Hymen!" Me: "Maybe I'm done for today."

Answering the QotM: Whether or not it will ever become a sleeper hit, I don't know, but I would urge you, gentle listeners, NOT to sleep on Botany Manor. It's a very gentle first-person puzzler where you play as horticulture's answer to Lara Croft; pottering around your aging mansion and deciphering notes left behind by you and your forebears as you attempt to cultivate and thus preserve a series of plants and flowers with... let's just say 'unusual' properties. (Not druggy ones. It's not NARC. Nor Yoshi's Story.) Botany Manor's not interested in rewiring your brain to transcend linear thinking, it doesn't muck about with higher dimensions or parallel timelines, and it can be completed in an afternoon*. That's probably why I appreciated it so much. Not every puzzler has to outsmart Portal to be enjoyable, after all. It's on Game Pass, so I'm hoping that word-of-mouth will gradually lead to Botany Manor finding its audience. If you were a British games journalist in the 90s, you might even say it's a BLOOMING good game!!!!! But please don't. * Playing it at other times of day is illegal.

I'm not coming home from school to watch a TV show about school! Forget it!!

The Berserk musou game is on Steam and I really enjoyed it. If that’s something you were still looking for Stuart, it usually goes on sale during Steam sales, like the Summer sale that’s on now.

Did Stu ever watch Grange Hill? I was half expecting him to mention Zammo's struggles with substance abuse and the cast's "Just Say No" song during your talk on NARC.
