Episode 634, Part 2: Gail Tilden on Nintendo Power
Added 2024-08-30 12:00:14 +0000 UTCJeremy: The second part of my live-from-Long-Island recordings comes to us with a major assist from Lucas M. Thomas, EIC of Nintendo Force/NF magazine. I tried not to get in the way during this three-person panel, and that includes letting everyone bag on Power Blade! I deserve a medal.
Anyway, this is a great conversation in which the former editor-in-chief of Nintendo (and one of the marketing leads of the NES's American launch) recounts her memories of her time making the big calls that shaped so many people's childhood. There's a very small amount of echo and feedback in this recording due to the acoustics of the venue—I was able to remove most but not quite all of it. But I don't think it's distracting or annoying, and certainly the quality of the conversation and information here more than makes up for it!
No musical interludes this episode. I couldn't figure out a way to make them fit the tone of the show. It's pure unfiltered discussion this time!

I loved this, could've listened to Gail's stories for hours. Her swipe at Dragon Warrior caught me off guard, I would've loved to hear more about the localization and marketing of it and Final Fantasy.
