Did i do something wrong?

in the last week i lost around 8 patrons. i know normally, people have their own things and they come and go, but a big drop like that makes me feel like i really failed to please or did something wrong. i know i can be slow and off on deadlines, since im always working on many things at once, patrons, coms and comic pages, while trying to write for new ones and new chapters, but i feel like i am doing or did something that might have upset some people.

as my patrons, i really do value your input, and i guess maybe i expect someone will just tell me if they are unhappy,  so please, let me know!!

is the comic no pleasing people, or am i not producing fast enough?

how can i improve?is there anything you would like to see me implement in my tiers?

i want to bring monthly idea polls back, and start back into animating, so those are on the agenda, but is there anything else? please let me know!

im really honord you truly enjoy my content and work ;n; to think you like my work despite my tardiness really is something i want to reciprocate through my work ;u; the deadline issue im definitely going to fix, i do see it being very irritating to many. i do hope it is a us tax thing, though a friend jsut pointed out im having pages leaked elsewhere. i always figured oh well it happens, but if i start to see a significant loss and can actually connect it to that, ill have to find an alternate content sharing system. it might help even more, since the beginning of each month i can do say, 4 pages release with a dropbox password, after payment clears. it frees a huge amount of time, plus i can mix in side pics and fun stuff with all the buffer time :3

i got one more page to shade, then im throwing all of chap 2 on a zip, and posting it here ;u; that shouldnt be long off. but im considering starting a dropbox to do monthly password releases or something.

i appreciate your advice. im actually considering changing to a drop box system for monthly releases, or something. ill post a poll on it when i have a more solid idea. i also do need to do better announcements, problem is, im kinda exhausted usually when i do them, since i work all day and through night often, so im usually exhausted when i do them ;u; im also going to fix the deadline issue, i think im simply going to give possibly a weekly idea of what i think ill have done, and make sure to finish it within the x timeframe, so as another person said, if its early, great, but if its on deadline end day people expected this.

If the mobile client would have shown your actual comment data instead of just your name, I’d probably not have posted my redundant comment. >.> I too would appreciate a way to more easily organize serialized content like comic pages. I normally examine and rename the files with my own file name pattern manually from time to time.

The only constructive criticism thing I could think of would be the oft mentioned already issue of expectation management. The pat saying “it’s better to under promise and over deliver than the opposite” applies. It didn’t take long to start ignoring “I’ll have $x posted by $y time” posts. And I don’t say that out of anger or even irritation, because this is exactly a bad trait I have. I’m pretty much obligated to give everyone a free pass on this flaw lol. The easiest major step to take in your scenario I would think is to simply make sure you generally meet any stated monthly output metric and stop publicly reporting arbitrary short term deadlines. If you’re creating arbitrary deadlines as a method of self motivation, you might want to try sharing the deadlines with a friend or some selected group of people other than all “patrons” just for the PR aspect. There’s some advice from someone who probably wouldn’t act on it anyway :) And it might just be, as some have said, just a financial thing due to US tax season and the recent tax law changes. There are a few accounts I’ve thought of unfollowing/whatever recently, but yours has never been one. FWIW, there are four Patreon content creator accounts I open the site specifically to check on. The rest are just “oh, neat” if I happen to notice new content. Yours is one of the four. And I’m not even into the whole straight jacket stuff :)

I really do like your comic. I've followed you on FA since pretty much the beginning, and you're one of two artists that I've ever felt were worth supporting on patreon. That said, since this seems to be a post inviting critique: 1) As others have already pointed out, the constant posting about missing self imposed deadlines is annoying. It buries all of the actual content under a bunch of "I'll have something out tomorrow night" "I'm really sorry guys I Missed it but I'll have it done tomorrow for real" "I still didn't finish it but here's a WIP" posts. If you didn't say anything in the first place, we'd never have even noticed you had missed anything. If you feel you need deadlines to produce, maybe find a few people you chat with regularly who would be willing to hold you accountable. 2) Your communication style is kind of hard to read. I'm not expecting college level prose that obeys every obscure grammatical law, but if you could at least run your posts through a spellchecker before submitting. It's unprofessional to have every post look like it was hastily typed on a nokia phone, and since this is a medium in which you're taking money from people, that does raise the standard a bit. 3) This is more the fault of patreon, but it's very hard to read your comic sequentially. Especially when you make a post containing two pages, as one of the images embeds in the post and the other shows up as something I have to download. If you could periodically upload a zip of everything so far, or better yet host the comic in an organized dropbox folder that would greatly enhance the comic viewing experience.

thats good guess as sadly i might have to drop before the 1 of the month if can't refind a job but if i do i will be back once my income come back love your stuff.

ouch...you shoot from the hip, and honestly i feel very deserved criticism to me, as said by others. i really appreciate you being a straight shooter with me on your opinion. and you are totally right, i set unrealistic goals for myself thinking if i say it will be done, ill make it happen somehow. i fully intend to not feel pressured to make promises then look bad when i fail to deliver x3x thank you very much for taking the time to give me your input <3

I don't have any problem with how often you update, but as others have stated you have no credibility at all when you state that you're going to post something at a specific time. Your plotlines are very interesting to me and your art is wonderful. That's why I became a patron after seeing your posts on FA. But please be more realistic about the time frames you post. Don't say you're going to post something in two days and then not post it for a week. Instead, say it will be posted in a week, and then if you post it earlier than that you're a hero. Then we'll be able to belive you again.

holy cow that is alot of pages...i try to get 4 a month, 5-8 thats crazy i wish i had that speed... i like that idea, i want to try and do so with comic pages myself, the chapter 2 i messed myself up bad cause i was feeling behind a few months back and had to reshade a few pages. so i wanted to get them shaded before i went and zipped em...good news is this will never happen again, i learned my lesson on that at least. im defintely going to take this advice to heart, i really apprciate you taking the time to tell me so

Do not say it will come out to night say it will come when it is done. Then none will get irrate and no promise are broken. I follow another comic here in patreon. they only doing around 5-8 page each month. and minium 1 page each week. And after each ch it take 1-2 month to release it as pdf or zip file. If you doing something simlary I think u will feel less stress and peope known it will come.

i appreciate you being straight with me. i see this is a huge issue of mine. i get pressured about taking time and making people wait, and try to set deadlines to force myself to work faster, but i agree its something that i cannot do anymore , i understand its frustrating. and i also understand with the zip, i meant to have things ready to go sooner, but i am bad at gauging timeframes xnx i do hope that i didnt really upset people and make them want ot leave and its a temp thing, only time will tell...thank you so much for your thoughts and advice <3 ill do my best to implement it !

One thing more at this time of year people does not have money. after x-mas and new years. it will take least end of of march people get normal with money again.

Magnus Olsen

PaddedUlf : I did found you comic on a xxx site. People like you comic, but I did i like it allot. Not many come fell into my taste but this one dose. Do not promies something u can keep like it coming up to night. That I get irrated over. I still waiting on the zip file with ch2 that you told you should post 1-2 week ago. If you have problem keep a time frame post like I am working on .. but remove the dead line you put in the text. and write soon it finish I will post it. Then people known you are working on it. it will come when it is finish.

Magnus Olsen

i understand that. i feel pressurd to rush things as to not make people wait, and try and set unrealstic deadlines for myself xnx i do need to stop doing that, but to make suddenly so many people leave at once?i guess maybe that could be a cause...i have to improve on that alot, i agree with you totally on the self imposing deadlines

yes, th patreon debacles, alienating people...that isnt helping for sure. i do hope it is something outside of my doing, like taxes...i suppose time will tell xnx

nonono it isnt rude at all! committed is a major comic i had struggles writitng and right now, its in its final draft, the " whether its good enough or not i want to do it" phase. im a bit of a perfectionist, even though im not the most skilled, i want things to be the best i can do so i tend to redo and rewrite till i feel JUST right. there is more, but i do agree i am lacking on sj....

thank you very much for your feedback. it helps getting a feel for whats happening <3

i suppose it is the time of year of that, its just alot all of the sudden, so im unsure what exactly is going on. i dont notice it happening with a few i watch, so i am unsure what it is, or if im doing something that displeases xnx

hmmmmmm...i did consider this, i have been throwing alot into the comic, and trying to complete the first part, but maybe i should do some fan art or sketches, that is not a bad idea. i have been wanting to do some renamon stuff...

that is true, i didnt think about tax season...i do hope its not me doing a bad job or something...

i really appreciate your kidn words ad support <3 i suppose that is something, i fear beign too slow, but im subbed to a couple patreons where they havent updated in over a month, so im not sure, maybe that is it

Will echo what everyone else said. This is the time of year where people suddenly _for some reason_ get the urge to go through their finances and see if there is any fat that can be trimmed. That said, if I had one complaint it would be the not making self imposed deadlines. A lot of creators post on a "once in awhile" basis, so someone not posting something for months doesn't really stand out within this price bracket (at least to me). When you post that you are going to have something up "later tonight" though, and then post it a week or two later.. that really stands out, and you seem to do that on a fairly routine basis. Not enough to make me bail, but I could see it driving others away.

Been reading that a lot of the people who filed early in the US ended up getting much less in their return or even needed to pay money to the IRS then they got before. This is possibly a response to income issues rather than anything you did. Hell, some may have just gotten fed up of Patreon's BS and didn't want to send money through them anymore

I rarely comment but as i though few time to stop that patreon, i think i could explain my feeling. I mainly came for you ABDL with straitjacket comics. It a rare subject on comic and i was pretty happy to find your art. I discovered Emily and pretty enjoyed it but it far from the reason i started that patreon. You publishing are good quality but the lack of new content doesn't help. I would expect a comic page and one or two pictures peer month. under that, i am feeling something is missing. I don't really find what i expected about straitjacket. It only my opinion, i hope it doesn't look so rude! Else keep going, you doing a nice job

I tend to watch an artist and usually stick with them unless I have money problems. I'm really enjoying the comic and don't mind waiting if it means good quality. I have no problems with you as an artist. Keep up the good work.

The only time I stop watching an artist was because I had income drop they might have had that happen

As Maxine said a major factor might be because of tax season and I wouldn't know cause I don't live in the US but I doubt the 'tax cuts' helped much. Now as someone who does respect you if there is a problem beyond that MAYBE and it's a big maybe cause I don't know what exactly your schedule and process is so take what I say with a grain of salt it might have to do with the fact that you've be too focused on the Emily's Babying story and not enough variety in what you've been uploading so maybe one day walk away from that story and work on other smaller stuff like single drawings...or maybe it's just patreon's issues that I've heard about and I'm full of shite

DarkKnightofAnime

I don’t think it helps that it’s currently tax season in the US.

yes, this is defintely something i sympathize with on people. im sorry your one of the people who have trouble being processed xnx. seems a monthly thing lately with patreon. but that is something that is out of my hands, you know? i'm most concerned with what i can do to please the people who support me. it could be just bad timing, but i feel, if its all at one time, maybe i did something that people didnt like, and if that is so, i want to do better.

I know I have experienced that issue too with my payment not being processed. I think you do amazing work and have no problems with anything else!! I think most people can understand that high quality artwork is a process and occasionally we have to be patient with the creative process, but honestly i do not think you are abnormally slow. I have a couple of creators who have only posted one or two things a month and you always do way more than that. Hope u keep up the good work!!

Eberhardt85

There has been alot of problems with patreon for the past few years. The problem being that patreon fails to pay you the artist and then fail to process the payment for the consumer (aka me and many other)
