Overanalyzing Netflix's Avatar: Episode Seven - The North

Comments

Netflix is so scared of their characters being percieved negatively that they removed any and all flaws that people could conceivably have an issue with. It's why Sokka doesn't have his brief sexist arc (not really complaining about that one tbh), Aang doesn't goof off, and Katara doesn't get fired up with righteous anger. They're so afraid of Katara being seen as preachy or over emotional or Aang being seen as too much of a kid despite being 12. And the result is a group of emotionless losers that you can't relate to at all.

And god, they did Kiawentiio DIRTY. Her acting in Anne With An E when she was like. 13? proves she can handle big emotional scenes, so I feel like it has to be the directing and script at this point.

I would've loved to see Hahn and Sokka's beef So Much. Don't really*hate* what they changed, conceptually, but they didn't have the time (*cough*or skill*cough*) for the execution.
