United States Flash Report - Uvalde, Texas Robb Elementary School Shooting

Update 2: 5/24/22 18:10 PDT: 21 dead - 18 children and 3 adults

Update 5/24/22 15:25 PDT: The children were between 7 to 10 years old and in grades 2 through 4.

At noon today, Central Time (Chicago, USA), 18 year old Salvador Ramos, of Uvalde, Texas, walked into the Robb Elementary School armed with one or two firearms and open fired. As of the most recent update from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, 16 elementary school students, one teacher, and Ramos are dead. Another 13 children and 2 adults have been wounded. One adult and one child are known to be in critical condition, the other adult has suffered a "graze" from a bullet. Ramos was apparently killed by local law enforcement.

In addition, police have discovered that Ramos killed his grandmother before going to the school. At this time we don't have information on what Ramos's connection to Robb Elementary is, or if he has one.

Complicating things for Governor Abbott, the National Rifle Association (NRA) annual meeting is in Houston, Texas from May 26 to May 28. Abbott is currently scheduled to speak at the event on Friday.

United States President Joe Biden is returning from an Asia-Pacific trip, and reportedly has been advised of the situation in Texas. The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms is assisting local authorities.

Robb Elementary School has about 600 students. Parents have been assembled at a different school as authorities process the scene and await to release the surviving/uninjured students to their parents.

That's what we know.

I'm heartbroken for everyone affected by this atrocity....truly. Everyone is in my thoughts today. There is no current personal gun ownership licence or law in the UK (aside from exceptions of course) but it does not eliminate the problem, gun crime in the UK is still present, and if not a gun, then an improvised explosive device, knife, weapon of any description is used to inflict harm on predominantly innocent people, in seemingly safe and or protected environments. I agree with Matthew to the tune that it's the holder of the weapon (of any description) that is the guilty party, but I'm also at odds with why in this day in history anyone can have access to firearms? **in any country where its governed by law or constitution. Surely limiting access would make some difference. **this is Purely personal opinion, I don't know much about American law and don't profess to, I like all of you probably are, am bereft, at a loss trying to figure out why the world is just upside down 😭

Are you saying that if there were legaly guns un school thits would't happened? Y only see that in countryes with same económic&democracy levels as USA with strict laws for guns, this problem doesn't exist.

This heinous action was committed by someone who broke current Texas gun laws and went into a place where people didn’t have the means to protect themselves or the people they were charged to protect and a massacre happened. Just like the massacre and heinous actions that occurred in Ukraine weren’t the fault of the victims or the weapons used but of the people using those weapons to commit those actions, this too isn’t the fault of the victims or weapons used but the action of an evil person that attack people, to include children, that couldn’t defend themselves.
