Russia-Ukraine Flash Report 07 OCT 2022 22:15 PDT - Kersch Bridge Badly Damaged

The Kersch Bridge, the vital Line of Communication (GLOC) from Russia to Russian-occupied Crimea, has been severely damaged. The rail section is engulfed in flames, and at least one of the highway sections has collapsed into the Black Sea. There is a massive uncontrolled fire on the structure. There are reports a Russian supply chain was on the bridge at the time of the explosion. Video confirms that at least one section has been destroyed.

The Russian Ministry of Defense is saying it was an accident and a railcar exploded, while others claim Ukrainian special forces or missiles destroyed the bridge. United States provided HIMARS is incapable of causing this much damage. ATACMS reportedly could not cause this degree of destruction either.

This is a crippling blow to the Russian war effort and will likely cause panic among the civilian population on the Crimea Peninsula. If the bridge is inoperative, the only way in or out of Crimea is by boat or through the Southern Ukraine land bridge via Mariupol and through Russian-occupied Donbas.

This truly changes everything depending on the degree of the damage and will have an incalculable impact on Russian logistics if the bridge is out for more than a few days.

Looks like a Russian response to blowing up the bridge is in progress. Explosions reported in Kiev, Lviv and other cities. 😩😩

I think this is the time Ukrainian generals think it makes sense to blow out the bridge. Like, I don't think they can do it many times, so may be they are planning to capitalize on it. Nice armchair.

A further thought here. If you wanted to take out both bridges with a truck bomb, you would have the truck in the center lane, so perhaps that either rules out the truck or leans towards the driver wasn’t a part of the plan.

BIG BOOM

Very interesting. I was under the impression that UA would have been reluctant to strike the bridge even if they were in range on the basis the wouldn't want to trap Russians on Crimea when they pushed to retake the territory (among other strategic reasons such as now RU are unable to effectively supply Crimea they will simply divert most of those resources elsewhere). I wonder if this was a partisan or Russian rebel action. There's been a few interesting explosions detected within RU borders in the last few months that the RU govt have simply called accidents but have hallmarks of perhaps something more. This is a big development and will surely put the writing on the wall for UA to repatriate Crimea.

I agree with it coming from above... ie the train i suspect

How did they get a second section of the roadway down with a single truck bomb?

From what I have seen, the explosion is from above the deck. Likely the truck shown in some of the videos. If the explosion came from below the deck (boat or similar) the deck would have impacted the flash of light and the material raining down after the explosion. Very convenient the train was right there at the same time. 😉

Cotton season will get them every time

Lol

At some point, they're going to have to consider banning smoking.

How about “both a and b”?

Uh… Russian Incompetence or UKR audacity… educated guess?
