Poll - Should Patron files become freely available?

I've been working on some other stuff that helps me a lot to deal with donations and new patrons.

This is hard 58 votes out of your patrons . roughly 15% , I thought more would vote but seems most simply don't mind .

So, it's likely I will make some files available, some not.

I think making the older files available after a year will allow a newcomer to your site the opportunity to see what they can have immediately upon becoming a patron. And hopefully anyone who enjoys your files enough to continue listening to them will support you anyway if they are financially able to. I know that's idealistic, but I still believe. :-)

If I make it available, they can download the MP3 as well. It's technically not really possible to allow stream only. (anyone vaguely technical can easily download it). The other thing I don't know yet, if I make a file 'free', will I still mark it as "once being Patron only?"

So long as when they go public is only via streaming and they will still have to chip in that little bit to be able to download, I think that seems fair. Thanks for being so great Nimja, and for giving us all so much!! (hehe, my keyboard automatically puts in your name, I use it often enough)

Which is option 3. :P - And yes, even if I allow people to listen to them, they'd be on the site only.

The easiest thing to do would be to leave things as they are .... Giving people a taste of patreon files may attract more people (which you deserve) or it may make people wait for the time limit - although they would have to be very patient to wait a year! I have no problem with them being shared after a certain time period - maybe you could tag different files as not to be released? Not sure how that would work Would being a Patreon lose its special glow ? ✨✨ not for me - a year is a long time ago and I love all your files I'm thinking they would be on your site and not youtube due to some content? I think the bottom line is whatever you feel is right will be right - your instincts will tell you Sir - the new files would still be Patreon only I'm taking it so still attracting new sponsers ( yes im looking forward to the sleep files 😴😴😴) and released files may even attract more ... Who knows ... I don't think i helped much, probably just muddied the waters ...

Why not make the 1-year timer a prerequisite rather than a guarantee? That way you won't have to make the files that are too intense freely available, since you're not obliged to release all the Patron files immediately after their year is up - and Patron/donation support still maintains some added value (if that's what you're going for) because there will be files that will never be free.

This vote is only open to paying patrons. Non-paying patrons cannot see this post. (will clarify in description) And I'm not too worried about earning money with this. You guys are already giving me *way* more than I ever expected to make with this. I do it because I like doing it.

I'm not so worried about haters, more worried about underage people. But I'm not going to make an annoying "age check" thing on the site.

I guess it depends on what you think will happen if they are indeed too intense. Is it a real legal issue for any reason? Or just will haters get a hold of them and harrass you?

Sir some are very intense and perhaps not ... others yes but how to make the decision? ... the question is , is this vote for patrons only or open to all to vote ... if every one can vote you could loose support, as why should they pay when after so long they can simply download ... I do not think it's an easy choice for you ... you work so hard for this . I do think you should keep some back but at the end of the day it's what you feel most comfortable about ... but one dollar is not much and it does mean they have to have a bank account or details supposedly so should be of a certain age . ( but that bit is work talking :( ) Good luck x
