The first test render of a semi-complete planet! I might need to balance things out with a continent fragment/large island in the upper left if the globe is to be rendered from this angle for its beauty shot, and slightly downsize the super-continent. Apart from that this design is nearly ready to produce and I can proceed to the rest of the solar system.

Actually I overlaid the various layers onto spheres and lit them in 3D software, and gave the clouds a bit of bump mapping.

Alex

I am glad to hear it!

Alex

I am blown away by the detail and care you're putting into these designs. I'm very glad I backed this.

Hey Alex, so do you just find some basic sphere 2d images for the shading similar to what was used on the link and it's all done in Photoshop? no special programs?

Yeah they have diverged quite a bit!

Alex

Yeah I agree. Its off that NASAs blue marble images contain no cyclones at all! Seem to be only the average cloud cover.

Alex

Would I be correct in guessing that the most densely populated areas of Birrin would be in the darker areas in the north and south of the continents? Because if so that would make some very interesting differences in cultures with they're civilizations so far from eachother and separated by the kiln

Personally I expect more of a cloud cover in the equatorial zone due to the existance of the Kiln and higher temperatures there, Leasing to higher evaporation. Perhaps even some more or less permanent cyclone systems.

This is a first pass on the world, so will only contain the broad biomes/climatic zones. These will be refined as I go, while I accumulate more knowledge about geography and climate to piece this world together. I WILL do a callout for patrons though, showing the most important areas and dynamics. Turned out that literal world-building was rather complicated :P

Alex

Will you also post a detailled map of biomes and climate zones this round, or is that for another time (also a version from before the fall)? Either way I like where this is going, and I think the mostly black appearance of the vegetation looks kinda "classy", if that makes any sense.
