While waiting to begin the hummingbirrin, I thought it might be valuable to share this: abandoned years ago as a failed experiment, nevertheless an interesting early experiment in designing flying life on chriirah.

It was to be a small, fast and nimble 'insectivore', using its modified, porous mouthparts to trap small flying creatures on the wing.

It might come back modified, perhaps more elegant than this

Why abandon it? It's a great design!

I suppose a great part of figuring out the flyer designs is to decide how their wings have evolved - from what limbs, under what circumstances, has it happened in several different groups in convergent evolution or just once, what is the wing structure, how many can there be, that sort of thing. and then turn this into coherent clades and species that fit with the rest of the setting. I'm really curious where you're going to take this with your new approach!

What he said!

Those mouthparts are a great design element. Curious why you consider this one a failed experiment? Aerodynamically? Or something to do with how it walks perhaps?
