Added 2016-06-20 03:51:59 +0000 UTCI am busy with a major commission until near the end of this month, and so I thought I would share some birrin world designs that never quite made it, or need to be polished and redesigned.
Several years ago I painted but never finished this designed for a flying insectivorous creature: two of the birrin-type jaws have evolved into a cage like structure, allowing small prey to be snatched midair while minimizing drag.

Yeah definitely very nightjar, using the cage beak instead of bristles. It is basically entirely aerial.
