You can see all the ways in which Valve teaches the player how to use certain mechanics, and how all the subtle environmental hints guide the player toward a conclusion. At some point later after you're more familiar with the game, definitely go through with the commentary enabled. So many aspects of game design we take for granted now were pioneered in this game.
