You’re getting at something very interesting there and it’s a very deep question. I think the way to understand it is that it is both coincidental and fated, if you catch my drift. The people of Doggerland harp back to all kinds of national myths and often name their children names from the lays, legends and sagas of their people, so it is coincidental in some regards that they happen to be named this, but also not, because some of those tales reveal divine truths. The universe of Humanity lost, or multiverse if you want to put it that way is not purely mechanical or physical, there are other forces at work. How you put it was great, a cosmic phenomena of causality, a web of wyrd if you will haha

2025-06-09 20:11:23 +0000 UTCOn the topic of the Wizard, I remember the lore page for Psionics stating that some scholars theorise that the legends and folktales of sapient species are the result of holymen and mystics unconsciously perceiving aspects of the World Tree through psionics in a way invisible to science and technology. So is Doggerland being a mirror of Arthurian legend a coincidence in-universe, or was there some kind of cosmic phenomena subtly nudging causality that caused them to follow the framework of the myth?

As I’ve said before, the UE isn’t cartoonishly evil; it is just a self-interested state concerned with expanding its influence and maintaining its power. The UE guarantees basic needs so long as an individual is not a dissident. Private property has been all but abolished, especially with regard to land and housing. Living standards have been somewhat equalised in the UE, equalised downwards, that is. Everyone has the same stuff, even though that means no one has much. The assurance of shelter and the provision of all basic needs have created a society where no one starves or sleeps on the street. So many problems have been solved. The vast majority of citizens reside in communal housing blocks, structures filled with pod-like cubicles that resemble office workstations more than homes. Personal space is minimal, and privacy is nonexistent, especially with the additional solvent of brain-machine interfaces, where even the walls of our minds have been broken down for clear observation. Shared toilet blocks and communal showers serve entire floors. Meals are rationed in the form of a grey, nutrient-dense gruel dispensed from food taps, consumed with the same quiet resignation as the chemically treated water from the pipe next to it. While some can afford to rent private pods with enclosed bathrooms and private gruel taps, this is considered a luxury and is usually earned through bureaucratic loyalty or sanctioned labour. The vast majority remain entirely dependent on the state for survival. They have no property, no ability to improve their conditions, and no meaningful avenue for escape or upward mobility, so they escape into digital fantasyland, as you said. In this society, equality means uniform deprivation. Everything has been equalised in a downward direction. The baseline is guaranteed, but it is deliberately austere. In place of freedom, citizens are offered care, but only so long as they comply. The UE does not rule through fear or violence; it rules through “care”. Citizens are constantly monitored through their BMIs. Language and thoughts are filtered through algorithms for harmful sentiment. Behaviour is nudged, corrected, or gently disciplined in the name of public harmony. Those who question or resist the system are rarely punished in the old-fashioned sense; instead, they are diagnosed, flagged as unstable, maladjusted, or in need of cognitive realignment. Oh no, the UE is very efficient and are generally quite good for the environment, except for their sprawling grey cities where all of their population lives. The no-go zones are regions of exceptional natural beauty where nature can actually thrive. It’s not all bad. I just realised I forgot to address your other question. In the nation-states and other states of the Earth, life is generally what you make of it and is much the same as it is today. It’s hard to generalise because there are just so many nation-states in HL’s past, and they all have differing systems of governance. Some have social safety nets and some do not; some are highly meritocratic with high social mobility, and some are not. Some are environmentally conscious and some are exploitative, it’s a case by case thing. If I had to generalise, however, I’d say that the vast majority are preferable to be a citizen of than the UE. I have heard of Mad God, but I haven’t watched it, I’d like to though! I think that’s sounds amazing, send me some stuff when you get some of it done!

2025-04-30 18:28:11 +0000 UTCThanks so much, everything is done digitally now to streamline the process, it could be done traditionally with pencils then lightboxes and ink work, but using layers in Procreate is so much quicker and produces much the same effect. After I completed volume one I had amounted a fair patreon support and I wanted to keep up with the demand, the only feasible solution to that was to switch to full digital, I’m really glad to hear that you couldn’t tell though, that’s the desired result!

I wonder, putting aside the totalitarianism and citizens having no rights, does the U.E. take care of its citizens better than some of the other nations on Earth at that time? If the U.E.s whole thing is control by pretending to be the solution to global problems and bread and circuses, has it solved some of those problems and does it give its citizens access to what they need? I wonder if without any independent watchdog groups to call it out, are the citizens drinking E.coli infested water or food slurry? Without such groups watching out for it, is the U.E. also doing stuff like dumping pollution into the environment? Since all of their citizens are off in their digital fantasylands, I doubt they would notice more smog or a lake that has turned pitch black near them. Has the U.E. even addressed any of the issues they said they would solve or did they just give their people ways to ignore them? I do kind of have an idea for a story. Have you ever heard of a movie called Mad God? I think its a great movie and it really inspired me. I've been dreaming of making a stop-motion film about a world that has been devastated by an energy source that when used, slowly pollutes, twists and destroys reality. It's about humanities psychological flaws such as inability to think in the long term and or delay gratification and how these flaws make us choose short term benefits over long term benefits, safety and stability. What do you think?
