REACTION to ITZY - CHECKMATE ALBUM

As someone who likes hearing the experimental side of KPOP this album was super interesting to listen to and although not every song was an instant add for me, I can appreciate the direction they had set with this album, and the girls seem to be really happy with this comeback and that's really what matters. The fav tracks are definitely Domino and Racer.

2022-07-16 16:37:10 +0000 UTCI really love the album a lot! I am personally super obsessed with Free Fall, which I find the song to be incredibly weird but that's why I love it so much lol. I do get what you're saying with a lot of the songs following a similar pattern and I definitely realize that can detriment to people's enjoyment of the album and has for me in the past, but for whatever reason it doesnt bother me here and I really like all the songs. My song ranking is: #1 Free Fall #2 Domino #3 Sneakers #4 What I Want #5 Racer #6 365. As for my Itzy album ranking, I think Crazy In Love is still definitely my favorite. I think I need some more time with Checkmate to know if I would put it #2 or #3, with Guess Who? being the other top 3 album.

And I agree, all the footage I’ve seen the members seem so happy and excited about this comeback, I think this is a style that they legitimately really love. I know some people think this is a step backwards back to when they started, and that’s personal preference of course, but if anything I think this is closer to the true Itzy feel. Itzy’s vibe was “I’m not like other girls” but they were kind of “maturing” into sounding closer to everybody else. I love In The Morning and Loco, but I thought Sneakers was a refreshing return to the core of who Itzy is.

I tend to lean more towards the weird, experimental, harder concepts so this fits my personal tastes very well. 365 and Free Fall win this album in my opinion. Sneakers did take me a few listens to get on board, but now I can't get it out of my head lol. The biggest point for me is through all the tracks it just really sounds like the girls are all having a great time and really enjoying themselves and that in itself makes it all the better.

2022-07-15 23:04:40 +0000 UTCI listened to the album today and I liked it fine, some songs were better than others, but when it got to the album it started repeating because I had it set to repeat on my phone. I just let it keep going and ended up listening 3 times in a row and liked it more and more each time. Some songs are better than others, but I at least like every song. I think Guess Who is still my favorite Itzy album, but I’m very positive on this album.

2022-07-15 21:34:58 +0000 UTCi guess at the end of the day is all about preference cause i've come to love 4th gen groups like stayc, fromis, ive for their music and then became a fan of the group. i get what you mean with kpop companies following more of a trend in music these days. still itzy so talented and their rap has gotten so much better with each comeback so like kaia said, it has nothing to do with the members themselves.

2022-07-15 20:12:57 +0000 UTCSame. I love the members and think the rap line is one of the best in 4th gen in my opinion but their music misses more than hits for me which is unfortunate. But this happens a lot with 4th gen GGs lately. Very few resonate with me the same as 3rd gens and idk exactly why. It's just something almost too simple with their musicality these companies are pushing on them.

2022-07-15 20:10:43 +0000 UTCi think for me itzy is a group that similar to you, i gravitate towards the members more than the music. i think their tt's are iconic and so fun but are not necessarily my type of music so i don't go back often to them. my fav bsides by them are nobody like you, surf, be in love, love is, trust me (the fan song), voltage, sooo lucky, sorry not sorry and kidding me. My fav tt's by them are wannabe, not shy, mafia in the morning. So i guess you can see a pattern with what sound of theirs i vibe with the most. I think itzy as a whole package (members, aesthetic, concept, and a bit of the music) is what makes them a group i will always stan. however, the music doesn't stand alone to me and thats i reason why they're not passing through the stan category to something more for me. i can def relate to what you said about the album.

I have found that no matter how much I like ITZY and always a few of their songs hit me from each album, I unfortunately have yet to completely vibe overall with any of their albums thus far. But I do have to say this album overall has been my fave but still not a complete hit for me. Thanks for the reaction!
