Demoitis Rant

Gday gday!

Just having some thoughts about our relationship with the first few sessions we have with our songs. It’s good to keep outside listening fairly separate from our project sessions so we can be as objective as possible to our ideas when we come back into the session. thise first couple of listens back from a break are so important!

Do you struggle with this/noticed this before?

“Be fearless about deleting shit” that I have to work on. I’ve found that when I’m in a good flow state I try to map the entire idea out and get a rough full arrangement regardless of how long it takes. Where I get tripped up is going back into the session with fresh ears and trusting that I won’t ruin the core idea because I’m no longer in the same flow state. I def need to keep putting the reps in and making these changes and keeping awareness around how that process impacts the final product.

Loved the comment on "not marrying" the idea you're currently on. I think I'm facing such a weird sense of fear in the early stages of learning music production - Fear of sounding "cringey" or straight up bad lol but it really isnt that deep!

this is like my #1 problem haha. I listen to my stuff on repeat too often...

Dealt with this last year. Listening to new songs way too much in the car and lost the excitement to get into the project. I started listening for certain elements instead. Demoitis is real

Also related: I feel like when I start a new project I always feel that spark/emotion in the music I’m making, but it’s only a matter of time before that spark is gone (e.g. once I get to the mixing/mastering). Similar to when I listen to my favorite song too many times. And once that spark is gone, I suspect that my mixing etc decisions start getting worse, and also my confidence in the song goes down. And then I try to remember how I felt when I was first making the song, and tell myself that that’s how other people will feel when listening for the first time, even though I don’t personally feel it anymore. Idk man, just wondering if you or anyone else had experienced this

Thanks for making this dude 🙏Knowing that you’ve gone through the same thing re: ear fatigue and fear of deleting shit makes me feel better about going through the same thing myself.
