Ragnar is strong, but he lives a peaceful life at Wild Beast while Lars is used to fighting other animals (it's one of the reasons why Ragnar never felt 100% comfortable with them and he would rather spend his time with Todd and Nazka; Axel and Lars welcome violence as part of their lives). On a normal situation, if it wasn't for Skye, Lars would probably win. They don't know, but Skye is saving Ragnar's life (and Yule's by extension).
