Weekly Update - April 27th

Another week gone! This year seems to go by quicker every day - being swamped with fics and assignments probably doesn't help. It's now the end of April which means time to start posting my next fic. It's another long one, plenty of chapters to hopefully enjoy, and a ton of pining and fluff to boot. Look out for that beginning Monday!! (and a preview down below if you don't mind spoilers ;) )

The newest Little Sh*t update has just gone on Ao3 too, so if you feel like rereading it or if you missed it here ~3 weeks ago, now's your chance!

Goal Updates:

I really wish I could stop saying this, but I still haven't touched any of my original fiction this year. The only time I've had the urge was when I was far too busy with other things to get back into it.  However I'm still on track with my word count! As of right now I'm at just under 189,000 on my official count, plus 10k on the fic I'm going to start posting soon. As long as I write more than 1k in the next few days, we're golden!

Writing Tips??

I've seen quite a few people posting (and had a few ask me personally) about writer's block lately, so here's a brief list of the ways I deal with it when it hits me.

1) Write something else
Usually when I get stuck, it's based on what I'm writing - hitting a plot point I don't know how to follow, or trying to link two scenes when I haven't figured out how yet. Generally if I move to something else - usually either a fresh idea I'm excited about, or an older work I love but haven't touched in a while - I can get some writing spark back.

2) Write something completely different
If a small change doesn't work, try a big one. Go from fanfic to poetry, or from an essay to original fiction. This is actually how I got in to writing fanfic, it was my failproof cure for writer's block.

3) Talk to people about your plot ideas
There is nothing that gets me hyped up to write something better than someone else being excited to read it. I usually end up significantly developing my plots this way, too. I have a couple of go-to people who I can always spam with ideas and it always helps.

4) Mindmaps
I did a whole post before under this tag about how I plot my fics out. It sometimes makes writing feel clinical because you're just connecting points, but sometimes that's what you need.

5) Try another form of creativity
Draw something. Watch a ballet. Paint a picture. Heck, go for a hike up a mountain and look at the view - that totally counts too. Or just read a book and imagine the story in your head! Any creativity is good creativity.

6) If all else fails, don't write.
For one thing, I always say you can tell who enjoyed writing their work, because it makes you enjoy reading it. For another, if you actively force yourself not to write, within a week you'll be bursting with ideas that you just have to write down.  Do not let yourself write, no matter how much you should or how much you want to,  Don't even let yourself think about writing, keep yourself as far away as possible, and watch your brain suddenly go into overdrive.

I hope my list helps someone out, I'm yet to reach option 6 and still be stuck but maybe I'm just lucky. Feel free to message me if you ever need to talk things out!

Oh, thank you for those writing tips! I’ve been in a writers block for some time now so I’ll try the ones I haven’t already. I’m so excited for the new fic! Can’t wait for Monday! :3
