The Happiest Day of my Life - Chapter 2

─────

Izuku looked back when the intercom buzzed, opening his mouth to call it to his husband's attention, only to find the man nestled in the corner of the couch with a bundle of blankets in his arms. From what Izuku could tell, they'd both dozed off a while ago, happily snuggled together in front of the quiet television.

With a little smile, Izuku dried his hands and headed over to let the guests in. He met them in the hallway, smiling fondly at the excited faces and touching a finger to his lips.

“They're asleep,” he explained with a grin. “He stayed up all night watching her, so I don't want to wake them just yet.”

“She didn't sleep?!” Inko asked, wide-eyed in her sudden concern. “She's only two days old!”

“She slept plenty,” he assured her. “But Kacchan refused to take his eyes off her. He's super cute, please don't tease too much.”

“You think so little of me,” Mitsuki laughed, reaching up to ruffle Izuku's messy curls. “I'll be nice, I promise. I just want to meet my grandchild.”

“Come in, they're in the living room.”

To Izuku's surprise, neither of his loves stirred when the door closed behind them. Equally surprising was the way all three grandparents followed him quietly through to the kitchen, his mothers searching the fridge and cupboards to make sure they had enough food while Masaru helped him make hot drinks.

With a dark coffee in one hand and a much sweeter tea in the other, Izuku stepped into the living room, setting the mugs down on the table and leaning over to kiss Katsuki's cheek.

“Morning Kacchan,” he smiled softly, when long eyelashes fluttered open. “Our parents are here.”

“Huh? Oh. Ugh.” Katsuki glanced up at the clock on the wall, pulling a face. “Did I sleep that long?”

“I'm not sure, I just turned around and found you cuddled up together and snoring.”

“I don't snore, nerd.”

“That's what you think,” he giggled. “Do you think you can spare her for ten minutes?”

“If I have to.”

Katsuki kissed Kikumi's forehead, then let Izuku scoop her up carefully, turning around to smile at the anxiously waiting faces in the doorway.

“You can come in!” he told them brightly. “This is Kikumi!”

Her bright blue eyes blinked open, stopping briefly on Izuku's face before they began to wander, and already Inko was choking on her tears. She stepped forward, and Izuku met her halfway, not bothering to wait for the question before he tucked Kikumi into her arms.

“She looks just like you,” Inko sniffled, cradling her gently and running her thumb over the tiny cheek. “She's gonna look just like her Papa.”

“Poor kid,” Katsuki snorted, smiling all the same as he hauled himself off the couch, sipping at his coffee mug. “Gotta piss, don't miss me too much.”

“Yeah, we're here for you,” Mitsuki drawled, rolling her eyes. “I couldn't care less what your ass does right now, I just want to see my granddaughter.”

“If you want to keep seeing her, you'll have to be nicer to your son.”

Excuse me, I'm super nice to our lovely Izuku!”

Katsuki scoffed at her when she pinched Izuku's freckled cheek, making him giggle, but didn't bother to respond as he stuffed his hands in his pockets and headed for the bathroom.

In his absence, all four of them crowded around the baby to coo at her, waggling their fingers and squealing when she looked. He'd known his mother and Masaru would be big softies for Kikumi, but he was a little surprised by how sweet Mitsuki was with her, too. He supposed it stood to reason, if Katsuki was so emotional – they were far too alike, after all.

“Oi, stop crowding her,” Katsuki growled, the moment he returned. “You'll freak her out.”

“She's fine, brat,” Mitsuki shot straight back. “You're just trying to hog the baby.”

“Haaah? Say that to my face, hag!”

Izuku slung an arm around Katsuki's waist with a smile, immediately distracting him from the argument when he cuddled into his side. He gave Katsuki his best pathetic puppy look, lower lip jutting out as he pouted, until Katsuki caved and returned the hug.

With a smile, Inko slid the baby into Mitsuki's arms, and she forgot about the argument in favour of setting her tea down to take the tiny, pink-faced child.

“You're such a lucky girl,” she said softly, with all the sincerity in the world. “You have the best daddies in the world.”

Katsuki softened a little at that, setting aside his frustration to watch how sweet his mother was with the baby.

“Sometimes Daddy might get angry, but I promise he doesn't mean it,” she continued, rocking Kikumi lightly in her arms. “And Papa will probably cry a lot, but he's just like that sometimes, you don't have to be worried.”

She paused, smiling a little wider as she stroked at fine blonde hair peeking out from the soft blanket.

“Inko is right, you look just like your Papa. Maybe you're gonna get Grandma and Daddy's hair though, you poor girl.”

“Oi,” Katsuki interjected gruffly. “She's gonna be beautiful, no matter what.”

“I know,” Mitsuki smiled, stroking her little cheek one more time. “That doesn't mean she won't hate it for a long time, though.”

Finally she handed Kikumi to the anxiously-waiting Masaru, who lost control of his tears the moment she looked up at him. They came silently, with no sniffs or sobs, just a steady stream down his cheeks as he held Kikumi close and whispered his love.

When Izuku looked up, he found Katsuki already smiling, and when their eyes met he snuggled in closer, feeling Katsuki's arm tighten around him comfortably.

“We have a baby,” he whispered, hiding his face in Katsuki's shoulder. “This is real, Kacchan.”

“I know.”

“I know you know, but I can't believe it.”

Katsuki smirked, his warm hand stroking up and down Izuku's ribs.

“I know,” he repeated. “She's perfect.”

“Uh-huh!”

“And so are you.”

“Awww, Kacchan!” Izuku squeaked, nuzzling in closer to hide his blush. “You're too sweet!”

“Shut up.”

All three grandparents got a few turns snuggling and cooing with Kikumi before she decided she'd had enough and opened her mouth. She may have looked more like Izuku, but she had Katsuki's lungs, and was more than happy to put them to work.

“Aww, sweetie, I'm sorry!” Inko rocked her gently. “Are we too noisy? Are you sleepy again? Or has Papa not fed you in a while, hmm?”

“Do the Kacchan test,” Izuku advised her.

“The- The what?”

“If you give her to Kacchan and she still cries, she's hungry.”

The three of them stared at him with varying levels of disbelief, but when Katsuki held out his arms, Inko handed her over. Sure enough, when Katsuki cradled her to his chest, the cries began to slow and eventually tapered off. Blue eyes fell closed as she settled against him, and Izuku smiled when Mitsuki attempted to stammer out a confused question.

“She loves her Daddy,” Izuku explained simply, standing on tiptoe to kiss him on the cheek, then leaning over to give Kikumi a matching one. “She wouldn't calm for me or the doctors, but Kacchan never fails.”

Katsuki jerked his head toward the couches wordlessly, and the group followed as he returned to his spot, pulling a blanket up over his legs and settling in with his daughter. Izuku shoved himself in demandingly, joining him under the blanket for cuddles, smiling as he reached for his tea.

“You're already such a good Dad,” he praised, watching a hint of pink rise to Katsuki's cheeks. “I love you.”

“Whatever, nerd.”

With the group settled in, Mitsuki reached into her bag, surprising both of them when she handed over a gift wrapped in clean white paper. Izuku stumbled out half-baked sentences, assuring her she didn't need to get them anything, but with a little smile she slid it firmly across the coffee table.

“Th-Thank you!” he choked out, cheeks flushed. “You're too kind!”

“Nonsense. This is my only chance to spoil my sons and their first child, I have to make the most of it!”

He babbled out a dozen thank yous, only stopping when Katsuki levelled him with a stern glare, and instead smiling sheepishly as he quickly shut his mouth.

“Open it!” Mitsuki insisted. “I hope you love it as much as we did!”

He carefully pried off the paper, smoothing it out and setting it aside, and when he pulled the top off the box he squeaked in his delight. Neatly folded, made of beautifully soft fabrics, were a collection of tiny baby clothes. He glanced over at Kikumi, sound asleep in her little black and orange onesie, and smiled as he held up a matching piece of fabric to show Katsuki.

“You're all dorks,” Katsuki snorted, smiling all the same. “Very cute.”

In Izuku's hands was a tiny black dress, patterned with orange crosses – still a little big for Kikumi, but perfect for when she would, no doubt, outgrow all her newborn clothes within a week.

“It's the cutest,” he squeaked, holding the soft fabric to his face, rubbing it against his cheek. “And so soft! I kind of want one too!”

“That can be arranged,” Mitsuki assured him with a smirk. “You and Kikumi can have matching Ground Zero dresses, you'll be the talk of the town!”

“On second thoughts, maybe not,” he grinned. “But I appreciate the offer.”

“What's the rest of it?” Katsuki asked, leaning over a little to peek. “Is that a Deku dress too?”

He picked up the green fabric obediently, giggling stupidly again when he found the stretchy onesie designed to look just like his jumpsuit. It even had a line of domes where his zip would be, and Katsuki couldn't help but laugh at it.

“You guys must have worked hard,” he chuckled, looking up at his parents across the couch. “They look great.”

Izuku didn't need to speak as he held up the final little jumpsuit, watching Katsuki's eyes widen when he saw the familiar red and blue patterns, the yellow antenna on the tiny hood.

“Izuku had a bunch of those as a toddler,” Inko giggled, when he held it up high enough for them to see. “His top choice for hero name was All Might Junior for the longest time.”

“I still think Small Might was a good one,” Katsuki teased. “You should have stuck with that.”

“Listen, Small Might was clever!” Izuku pouted. “Besides, I don't want to hear it from the man who considered calling himself Dyna Might!”

“That was way more clever than Small Might, nerd.”

There were some stray items hidden beneath the suits, too: Tiny socks to match each of the outfits; little knitted hats in all their signature colours; stripy leggings, both green-and-black and black-and-orange. His eyes shone with tears as he looked up, sifting through it all, and his lips trembled when he searched for the right words to thank them.

“If you need anything else, you can call us any time – day or night.”

“You're amazing,” Izuku sniffled. “Can I hug you?”

“Of course you can, hun!”

Izuku practically launched himself at her, hugging tight around her slim waist and straining to keep his tears from staining her shirt.

“It's all so perfect,” he spluttered. “I'm so happy.”

“If I can make you even half as happy with a gift as you make my little brat every day of your life, I'll be satisfied.”

Another round of tears burst from him, and Katsuki gave her a look that was torn between sarcasm for the sappy comment, and apologies for Izuku being a sentimental idiot.

“He cried more than me,” Izuku pointed out stubbornly, when he saw the expression being shot their way. “He cried for hours yesterday.”

“Shut the hell up,” Katsuki growled.

“He did,” Izuku insisted. “He's not crying now 'cause he's too dehydrated from yesterday.”

With Kikumi sound asleep in his arms, Katsuki slid around the coffee table, settling the comfortable little bundle in Inko's arms. She gave him a look of concern when he stood, marching over to pry Izuku off of his mother, tangling his hand in green curls and giving him a good shake.

“You're already a big dumb nerd, don't be an asshole as well.”

With Mitsuki set free, Katsuki dragged Izuku back to their corner, taking a quick glance at Kikumi sleeping peacefully in Inko's arms before deciding to leave her be, to let Inko have some quality snuggle time while she was around.

Instead, Izuku crawled into his lap, relishing the opportunity to get cuddles – it had only been twenty-four hours since Kikumi came home from the hospital, but he was already starting to feel left out, with a baby in the way of his favourite snuggle spot.

“I love you,” he reminded Katsuki sweetly, getting a glare for his efforts. “Kacchaaaaan.”

“Yeah, yeah. Me too, idiot.”

“I'll take it,” Izuku laughed, leaning back Katsuki's chest. “You're so comfy.”

“Whatever.”

He reached an arm back, running his fingers through short blond spikes, and when he scratched lightly at Katsuki's scalp, just the way he'd always liked it, Katsuki relaxed a little.

“I'm glad you're both so happy,” Masaru spoke up, while his wife leaned over to coo over the baby again. “I've been surprised many times over the course of your relationship, I don't think I ever expected to be sitting here like this, but I'm glad things worked out the way they did.”

Mitsuki nodded her agreement, sitting back up again and flashing her sons a cheeky grin.

“So which room am I sleeping in?” she asked innocently.

“The hell are you on about, old hag?”

“Did I forget to tell you I'm moving in?”

Izuku laughed brightly, and somehow the sound of it made Katsuki choke on his stubborn words, every ounce of fight dying on his lips.

“Fuck off,” he said half-heartedly, after a pause to recover. “Like I'd let you take away my bonding time with my daughter.”

“I can look after her while you're out being a hero!”

“If I learned one thing from the old man,” Katsuki began, gesturing toward Masaru vaguely. “It's that a Dad is meant to be home with his kid. Fuck heroics, there are plenty of heroes in town, I'm not gonna waste a single minute with my baby.”

Tears sprung to both Masaru's and Mitsuki's eyes this time, both of them lost for words, and Izuku smiled as he planted another little kiss on Katsuki's cheek.

“I give it a month,” he teased. “Then you'll be dying to blow something up.”

“Yeah,” Katsuki snorted, kissing him back in a moment of weakness. “That's why I married your sorry ass.”
