“So?” Bakugou asked, raising his eyebrows pointedly. “What do you think?”

Kirishima paused, staring at the outstretched hand for a moment before he looked back to the sharp red eyes that waited impatiently for his response.

“I’m flattered, Bakugou, but I’m taken”

“Ha ha. Real funny. Seriously, asshole.”

Kirishima smiled fondly, clapping him on the shoulder, and Bakugou narrowed his eyes stubbornly.

“I’m sure he’ll love anything you give him. It’s coming from you, after all.”

“That’s not what I asked.”

“I think it’s beautiful.”

“Ugh, so it’s too girly? I knew it.” Bakugou scowled, turning the box around to look at it again himself. “It’s too bright, right? I knew I should have gotten the darker band.”

“What? No! Bakugou, it’s great! Midoriya wears a lot of light colours, he doesn’t live in black like you do, I’m sure he’ll love the silver.”

“Platinum.”

“Platinum? Isn’t that the super expensive one?”

“It’s durable,” Bakugou grumbled, snapping the box closed stubbornly. “I don’t give a shit about money.”

“Okay,” Kirishima grinned. “And the red stones, he’ll love that. Like his favourite shoes, and your eyes.”

Bakugou flicked the box open again, eyeing the three tiny rubies before he tucked it away in his pocket, making sure it was secure.

“It’s our anniversary today,” Bakugou mumbled, refusing to meet Kirishima’s eyes. “I’ve had a dinner table booked for months, I was thinking about doing that gross thing where you get them to put the ring in the wine, since he likes sappy shit, but knowing him he’d drink it without noticing. So maybe I’ll just ask during dinner, but it might be shitty to ask in public, it kind of forces him to say yes, right?”

“Do you really think he would say no?”

“No,” Bakugou snorted. “I wouldn’t ask him if I did.”

“Then it should be fine. If it feels too crowded or too public, you can always just wait until after.”

“I guess,” Bakugou grumbled. “Restaurant carpark, so romantic.”

“Take him for a walk in apark or something! Come on, Bakubro, I know you’re smarter than this.”

“Shut up,” Bakugou huffed, glancing at his phone. “I’d better go, gotta get changed for patrol. I swear to God if you breathe a word of this to anyone-”

“I wouldn’t, you know that.”

“Not Dunce-Face, not Raccoon-Eyes, not Ears, not-”

“Not a soul,” Kirishima promised. “Good luck bro, he’s gonna be so happy.”

“Yeah,” Bakugou said softly, touching his pocket again. “He will be.”

“Kirishima!” Midoriya whispered, eyes shining. “Do you have a minute?”

“Oh, hey! Yeah! How are-”

“Shhhh!” Midoriya glanced around quickly, then dropped into a spare chair with a smile. “Whispers only! Look at this!”

He produced a little black box from his pocket, and for a moment Kirishima only stared at him blankly, stunned by the combination of deja vu and the barely-suppressible urge to laugh

“I’m gonna propose to Kacchan!” He explained, his smile barely fitting on his face. “I just wanted your opinion on the ring I chose, do you think Kacchan will like it?”

It took every ounce of Kirishima’s willpower to keep from laughing his head off or blurting everything out, but somehow he managed to find the strength, biting down on his lower lip as he nodded.

Inside was a simple ring, spiraled with black and silver metals, displayed on shiny white satin – plain and classy, just the way Bakugou liked it. Honestly, Kirishima wasn’t even sure why either of themwanted his opinion – they knew each other inside and out, understood each other far better than he ever could. It just seemed silly to even bother asking.

“It’s perfect,” Kirishima assured him, smiling finally. “He’s gonna love it.”

“You think so? I’m so glad! I know people usually get diamonds and stuff, but I just couldn’t picture Kacchan wearing a diamond, you know? Or any gems, really. I should have hinted about it or something, got his thoughts, but our anniversary is today and we’re going out to a super fancy dinner tonight after his patrol so it just seems like the perfect time. And I’ve been looking for weeks now! And this one just seemed… Like Kacchan, you know?”

“I think he’ll love it. How are you gonna pop the question?”

“I thought after we eat I could ask him to go for a walk together, there’s this really pretty park across the road from the restaurant so we could go over there, and then I can propose under the stars in a pretty place, surrounded by nature!”

“Shit.”

“It’s shit?”

“Wh- No! I mean, uh- shit, that’s good! It sounds great! You came up with a great plan!”

“Thank you,” Midoriya smiled, shoulders slumping as he sighed with relief. “I’m so excited, I can’t wait to call Kacchan my husband. I hope he doesn’t think it’s too soon or something.”

“I’m sure he doesn’t,” Kirishima chuckled. “You two are always on the same page, right? Maybe a different line sometimes, but always the same page.”

“I guess so,” Midoriya agreed, glancing at the ring once more before he tucked it away. “Well, keep your fingers crossed for me, okay? And please don’t tell anyone! I would hate for it to spread and get back to Kacchan! It would ruin the surprise!”

“Not a word,” Kirishima promised. “I’m sure it’ll go great.”

“Thanks for your help. My shift is over so I’m heading home to clean up and prepare my speech. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“As an engaged man!” Kirishima winked. “The new Mister Bakugou!”

“Not until the wedding!” Midoriya laughed, freckled cheeks flushing pink all the same. “Have a good afternoon!”

“Be brave, my man!”

The sky was long-since dark by the time Kirishima made his way home, the streets all but empty around him. He hummed to himself quietly as he walked, only pausing when he heard a familiar giggle from down the street. He looked up just in time to see Midoriya sling his arms around Bakugou’s neck, jumping up to wrap his legs around his waist to match. Bakugou held him tight, grinning the brightest smile Kirishima had ever seen from the man, and Kirishima just waited and watched as they clung to each other, smiling fondly to himself.

He’d watched the two idiots go through so many ups and downs, from the apparent hatred early in high school, to the rivalry and friendship that developed beyond, all the way through the awkward pining when they were both so ridiculously oblivious about each other’s feelings, and finally to the loving, caring relationship that was now apparently turning into marriage. He wasn’t sure he’d ever met a couple with a more storied history, with such a rollercoaster of a relationship, but somehow they just made it look so perfect.

“Kirishima!” Midoriya beamed, catching sight of him in the distance. “Guess what!”

Kirishima raised one hand in a wave, grinning as he waited for them to get close enough to speak without waking the neighbourhood, and finally Bakugou set Midoriya back down on his feet.

“He said yes!” Midoriya continued, throwing his arms around Kirishima this time. “We’re gonna get married!”

“Congratulations!” Kirishima hugged him back tightly, winking at Bakugou while Midoriya couldn’t see it. “I could never have guessed!”

“No wait, you haven’t heard the best part! Kacchan was- He was planning it too!” Midoriya spluttered, barely able to get the words out with how excited he was – and likely a little tipsy, Kirishima suspected. “He proposed first, Kirishima! And I just- I just laughed and pulled my own ring out too. You were right! We really are always on the same page!”

“We both talked to you, didn’t we?” Bakugou asked knowingly, smiling faintly despitte his sigh. “He came to see you as well.”

“You both swore me to secrecy! I couldn’t ruin it for you!”

“Thank you.”

Kirishima blinked at him, convinced he must have misheard – Bakugou almost neversaid those words, let alone so sincerely. But Bakugou just raised an eyebrow, refused to repeat himself, and after a moment Kirishima smiled at him again.

“You’re welcome, bro. I’m so happy for you both.”

Midoriya finally let him go, holding his hand up to waggle in Kirishima’s face, and dragged Bakugou’s up to match.

“Look! Kacchan picked me such a pretty ring! And his looks so handsome on him! I mean, everything looks handsome on Kacchan, but-”

“He had a lot of champagne,” Bakugou explained, dragging Midoriya back into his arms. “We’re heading home.”

“That sounds like a good idea,” Kirishima chuckled. “Have a good night, you two. I’ve booked people to cover your patrols tomorrow, both of you take the day off.”

“You’re a god-send,” Midoriya fawned. “Come on Kacchan, we can cuddle all night and all day!”

“Sure thing, fiancé.”

“I love that word.”

“I know. Me too.”

“Goodnight, Kirishima!” Midoriya called, jumping into Bakugou’s arms again. “Carry me home, Kacchan! Over the threshold!”

“That’s after the wedding, not the proposal.”

“Kacchan is strong! He can do it twice!”

“Whatever you say, nerd.”

Bakugou hitched him up, balancing him carefully before he dared to take a step, and Kirishima stepped aside to give them room to move.

“Night Shitty-Hair,” Bakugou grunted, taking a moment to get enough momentum to move. “See you in a couple of days.”

“Have a good night, bro. Congratulations again.”

He watched as the pair waddled off, Midoriya still giggling up a storm, Bakugou whispering in his ear to keep it going. The two of them were off in their own little world, uncaring of anything else that happened around them, and Kirishima could only watch them go in awe.

One day he was going to find a true love of his own, and he could only hope to have even halfof what his best friends had.
