The Two Types of Wingmen [Bakawks] - Part 10

[Click for Ch9]

“Bro, have you seen this?!”

Kirishima leaned over the counter, shoving his phone in Katsuki’s face and getting an annoyed huff in response. On the screen was a familiar photo, one he’d seen only twelve hours ago as it was taken, and he raised an eyebrow at Kirishima.

“No, I’ve never seen the photo I’m in with my favourite hero. Thanks, Shitty-Hair.”

“I mean the post.

“What about it?”

He scrolled down slightly, and Katsuki froze, staring at the little number still rapidly ticking upward.

“You’ve gone viral,” Kirishima explained. “Look at this!”

The photo had a short caption underneath, Katsuki’s own account tagged in it, and he reached for his phone slowly to take a look. He never really looked at the thing, had all the notifications muted and just pulled it up maybe once a week during a particularly long dump to see if there was anything new to look at.

Sure enough, the app had blown up overnight, with Katsuki gaining a thousand new followers thanks to the dumb selfie.

Hanging out with @DynamiteHero after our shared capture the other day! Couldn’t have done it without you!”

The tag and the new followers also came with a long list of comments and messages that he knew he was going to have to sort through at some point – everything from Can I get his number? to the very weird It should be illegal to have so much beauty in one photo and that was without even looking at the private messages.

“You’re super popular,” Kirishima grinned knowingly. “This is so cool! By the time we graduate you’re already gonna have a following as a hero! You should start posting more photos and stuff, keep the momentum going!”

“Ew.”

“How did you end up hanging out with Hawks, anyway? Did you just run into him during your date? Must have made the new boyfriend super jealous – look how happy you look! I’ve never seen you so- Oh. Oh. Dude! Holy shit! Are you-”

“Stop.” Katsuki cut him off quickly and firmly, glaring. “Don’t you dare make this a big spectacle.”

“You are?! Holy shit.

“How much did they pay you?” Mina interjected, hurrying to join them when she spotted Katsuki hanging around. “Everyone is asking about the hoodie you’re wearing!”

“He paid me with the hoodie and a fancy figure I wanted,” Katsuki snorted.

“You got the figure?!” Kirishima gasped. “I’m so happy for you, man! Did you ask him for it? Or did he just like, read your mind.”

“I mentioned liking his merch.” Katsuki shrugged. “He figured I wouldn’t fork out for it, so he got me one instead. As uh, thanks, or whatever.”

“As… Thanks.” Mina repeated flatly, narrowing her eyes. “Not as… A special gift?”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“It means that Todoroki doesn’t exactly have a lot of friends, you know? But Hawks and Endeavour are close, soooo…”

Katsuki grimaced, and Mina’s jaw dropped when he didn’t immediately rebuff it.

“You’re dating Hawks?!” she hissed, glancing around to make sure no one was listening in on them. “Why didn’t you tell me?!”

“It’s new,” Katsuki grumbled, his face growing warm. “Don’t wanna jinx it or some shit.”

“That’s so cute. And Hawks is a hottie, good job! You should totally take a few pics in that hoodie, show it off a bit. It’d be good for his merch sales, and then you can graduate with a Sugar Daddy already lined up!”

She ducked away before Katsuki could punch her for it, giggling, and Kirishima stepped between them with his quirk already activated, keeping them carefully separated.

“I’m leaving,” Katsuki growled, snatching his bowl of egg and rice to storm back up to his bedroom. “Don’t say shit, you hear me?”

“We wouldn’t,” Kirishima assured him. “Really bro, I’m glad you’re happy!”

“Yeah,” Mina nodded, smiling warmly. “It’s super cool, Blasty. Have fun, okay?”

“Whatever.”

He stomped back upstairs, grumbling under his breath, until he was safely locked in his bedroom, alone. Only then did he pull his phone back out, staring at the photo again. It really was a cute shot, even he could see that. The little smile on his face was something rarely captured on film, and Hawks’s grin beside him was just as endearing and cute as ever. He saved the photo to his phone for later, thumb hesitating over the ‘like’ button.

Screw it.

He hit the button and scrolled down to the comments, shaking his head at the amount of sheer thirst coming through. Not even just for Hawks, but for him. On one hand it was a little amusing, on the other, he kind of hated how much attention people gave to his boyfriend.

He switched over to his messages instead, getting comfortable against his pillows and taking a bite of food before he began to type.

Good morning Mister Popular.

He hit send before he could think better of it, smiling when the “typing” icon immediately came up at the bottom.

Didn’t know you talked to yourself

Haha, very funny

Despite the sarcasm, he couldn’t help but keep smiling at his screen, even as he waited between replies. He knew Hawks would have to go out on patrol soon, was probably in the middle of suiting up and heading out the door, but it was nice that he took the time to humour Katsuki’s dumb texts even so.

Gotta take off, see you at dinner?

Yeah, don’t get yourself hurt.

I’ll try my best

Katsuki slid down the bed, sighing faintly as he got comfortable, switching his phone back to the photo of them both. On a whim, he sent it to his parents, devoid of any context, though he knew his parents wouldn’t care about that – hopefully they’d be glad to see him happy, or whatever sappy parent shit they settled on that day.

And if he set it as his wallpaper, too, nobody had to know.

─────

“Hey, look at you, repping your boyfriend! That’s cute!”

Katsuki burned bright red, stuttering uselessly, and pointedly refused to look at the knowing smirk Shouto shot him.

“Oh, sorry, is it a secret still?” Natsuo continued, giving him an apologetic smile. “Don’t worry, I won’t tell the newspapers or anything. Come on in, the others are here already.”

Katsuki had known it was a mistake to go later than usual, but the damn halfie had insisted he needed to finish his group project bullshit first. Katsuki hated being the last one to arrive – anywhere, let alone to dinner with a bunch of people waiting on them, his boyfriend included.

“There they are!” Hawks grinned, when Natsuo led them inside. “How did the schoolwork go?”

“It was good,” Shouto nodded, sliding into his usual seat beside his brother. “I think we’re ready for Monday, just need to practice the presentation stuff a little more.”

“Those kinds of project are the worst,” Natsuo smiled sympathetically. “How about you, Bakugou? Are you prepared too?”

“He finished his a week ago,” Shouto snorted, surprisingly emphatic. “He was partnered with Midoriya, they finished it the day we got it.”

“You say that like it’s a bad thing,” Katsuki shrugged, offering Fuyumi a container of fruit-filled crepes. “Can I help with anything?”

“You already did! These look delicious!”

“Anything else?”

“Nope, we’re all sorted! Have a seat and relax!”

He pulled out the chair next to Hawks, pulling a face when a hand reached for him. He expected the usual teasing touch, ruffling his hair or poking his cheek, but instead it moved  to his back, flapping one of the little wings attached to his hoodie.

“Haven’t taken it off, huh?” he teased. “The internet seems to like it.”

“Tell me about it.”

Hawks laughed when Endeavour frowned at them, pulling out his phone to wave at him.

“You know what this is, right, old man? You know how to use a phone?”

“They went viral,” Fuyumi explained, quickly abating the argument. “Hawks gets a lot of attention on his social media, he posted a photo with Bakugou recently.”

“I hope you talked to your publicist first, before coming out to the world like that.”

“I didn’t say we were dating,” Hawks assured him. “Just that he helped me with that capture earlier in the week! It’s a really cute photo though, wanna see?”

“No.”

“Here, take a look.”

“I said no.”

“Isn’t this cute?”

“Why do I let you come over here.”

“Your life would be boring without me.”

"I assure you, it would not."

“At any rate,” Hawks continued, grinning as he put his phone back in his pocket. “There are thousands of girls asking for his number now, I’m pretty damn lucky he hasn’t moved on already.”

“Bakugou got a ton of new followers,” Shouto added, eyes widening when Katsuki glared at him. “What? You did.”

“You should probably find yourself a PR person too, then,” Endeavour advised. “As soon as you start getting public attention, it’s better to be safe.”

“I’ll set you up with mine, if you want,” Hawks offered.

“Don’t listen to him,” Endeavour scowled. “If you two have a fight or something, you don’t want the same person managing you both. Are you doing work studies? They probably have someone you can talk to.”

“No, I’m not,” Katsuki grimaced. “I didn’t really have an ‘in’ with anyone, or whatever. It’s a pain in the a- butt.”

“Come see mine, then. Monday, after you finish school. I’ll be out on patrol, but you know your way around.”

“Oh. Um, thank you. I will, yeah.”

He swallowed hard, biting back his snark about being able to handle it himself. All the top pros had them for a reason, after all, and he may as well get a jump on it early – especially with his… public image. Then again, Hawks had a great image, so maybe the two of them hanging out, even if they didn’t call it what it really was, would help him out a bit.

“Dig in!”

Katsuki jumped when a plate landed before him, but quickly found the presence of mind to nod his thanks, reaching for a plate of roast vegetables that smelled so good it was making him drool. Hawks shot him a smile when their eyes met, and Katsuki looked away quickly, hearing a little chuckle over his pink cheeks.

He really was a sucker for the guy.
