I'm not sure why a couple of people are tripping so much over "The Devil." I suppose it's probably due to the overt religious connotations. My guess is since this is a universe where Earth exists the reason we are seeing a powerful demon from Earthly mythology here is that the demons from the Netherworld have visited both this mortal realm and Earth's. It doesn't necessarily mean that the myths built around these demonic entities are entirely true, just that the seeds of those myths are probably powerful planes travelling demons from the Netherworld. We already know the Netherworld doesn't appear to be the Abrahamic Hell or any sort of afterlife for that matter.

He withdrew from his high balcony, returning to the grand throne that was carved in resemblance to the mortal kings he had once met and envied. Now, he laughed at the lavish wants of such short-sighted men, content with only the luxuries of life. “The Devil will play his tricks on the fools, and the Beast shall once again feast upon the weak that invade its lands. All will be destruction. All will be death. They will learn quickly that there is only hell.” The first of the black raindrops fell from the sky, the precipitation wetting the barren lands with life, yet corrupting the pure, white surface into a dark ooze.

I would totally accept a devil on face value and be completely fine with it, but not THE devil, its just something about it that's just a huge wet blanket for me. Not because of any personal religious reasons or anything, but it just shifts the entire tone of the story to something else entirely. Just now the guy just showed up, did something that was supposedly impossible, tossed around the mc just for the worf effect, alluded to being more powerful than the hovering villain and spared Savos just because she was Savos. Any of these are excellent tropes and set the stage for the next arc, but all of them together in one scene just breaks it kinda for me.

2021-02-02 21:07:14 +0000 UTCThis chapter seems really off. It doesn't flow well nor something the reader could expect development wise, feels very forced. Maybe cut it all out and have them attacked in the cave while studying the circle..
