He left behind things that would increase his own chance of survival, because he was worried that if he died they would reduce everybody else's chance of stopping Levi? He's been actively hostile to all the mortals that he's relying on for a plan B now, he hasn't mentioned anything about demons he's particularly attached to, so what's pushing him to gamble on a scenario in which the world's are saved but he isn't there to see it? Pure spite?
