[Salvos] 561. The World Of My Mind (Removed for KU)

I feel like showing that demons have the capacity for love opens up the story to do much potential. Looking forward to what's next!

I fucking love this story

AuraMaster

This chapter is a nice reminder of what I liked about this series that convinced me to keep reading. The story of a weird girl experiencing new things and learning how to understand the people around her and herself. The combat and the magic and the corruption and the side stories are all well and good but it's the moments about connecting with people that hit the hardest. This might be one of the weaker books overall for no other reason than how few characters it has and how little Salvos interacts with them, but there are definite highlights like this moment and Haec finally realizing he has a real companion by his side already.

I was relatively sure that Salvos had been offered a change before, but can be that I'm wrong. But regarding his "Sloth-like" behaviour, I think "senile" fits much better. The guy has been fighting an entire war all on his own for who knows how long and has probably gone more than a little bit mad. And regarding his sloth-like Skills, it could simply be hold-overs from his days as a Sloth demon. I don't think there has ever been a mention of the possibility of losing Skills due to an advancement, so I think its likely that he simply kept the "summoning" Skills when he made the switch, because being capable of creating an army of Gargoyles is super useful.

Jeanean

Wow, I'd actually call that the best chapter so far. Almost made me tear up!

On minion generation... Salvos doesn't generate minions. She creates apparitions, they don't have levels. There is also thematical difference. Say, Demon of Envy, would create apparitions mimicking abilities of others. While Demon of Lust would definitely create apparitions capable of thoughts. Salvos' apparitions, as a Demon of Pride, are extensions of her Ego and shaped in the same image.

Wikis are hardly reliable. I'm left wondering, has the author made any comment on the topic since I don't think we have an in-story answer? If there is an in-story mention of it, I would love to be pointed to it since I am rather curious about the character. His mannerisms could certainly be seen as Slothful, but as for his ability to make minions that help do his work for him, Slavos uses her clone ability in exactly the same way and she is a demon of Pride, not Sloth. Demons of Sloth certainly don't have a monopoly on these sorts of minion-generating abilities. Edit: Oh, I see. You aren't referring to a wiki article for this story, but rather the Wikipedia article for the mythological Belphagor.

Melting Sky

Just becoming a succubus wouldn't make her a demon of Lust. It requires a dramatic change in personality. The only time she was offered change, was with lvl 150 it was towards Wrath due to her rage when her babies were endangered. Belphagor, also displayed Sloth-like behaviour when Salvos first met him. Extremely slow walk and very slow talk. Also the idea of creating minions that work and fight for him is very beffiting a Demon of Sloth. So I don't think he changed his Demonic archtype. Also it would be hard after lvl 200. That's being sad he is a God and can be god of something, giving him more aspects than just Sloth.

There seems to be a lot of speculation regarding Belphegors Sin, so I did some research. I found things on two Wikipedia pages. Firstly, there was no mention of belphegors "sin" according to any "original" sources. Secondly, there was one mention of a book written in 1409 that defined belphegor as a Sloth demon, which also seems to be the common modern interpretation. Thirdly, apparently there was a cult of "Baal Peor" with practices including the wearing of crotch and buttless clothes and, in some form, feces. This means he could also be the Sin of Lust. (then again, the same article said that that doesn't actually mean anything conclusive.) Personally, I think that at least in the beginning, Belphegor was a demon of Sloth, which is the orgin of his "summoning" Skills. However, if you recall, I think it was when Salvos became a changeling, she had also been offered the oportunity to become a Succubus, which would have changed her into a demon of Lust. So, considering Belphegors behavior, which is MUCH closer to a Lust demon than a Sloth demon, I think that Belphegor started out as a Sloth demon, but might have changed into a Lust demon later on.

good chappies

Melas has confirmed on discord that Worldbreaker (which was in bold) was NOT a grand skill.

Sancturillore -- Élie Simard-Wallot

Belphegor is the Lord of Sloth. It's not mentioned in story, but yeah. Like demon king Samuel = Samael = Satan - Lord of Pride.

matt

Sloth. It is literaly written in Wikipedia that Belphagor is a demon of Sloth. If you go back to the introduction of Belphagor you'll notice how slothful he is. Extremely slow walk. Creates lots of minions to do work for him. This is quite the irony that he has been doing so much work for the last 50 thousand years. Perhaps, ironic torture by Trico?

Alexey Gladkich

Do we have any actual confirmation on what flavor of sin Belphegor is an incarnation of? Only two make much sense to me and they are Pride and Lust. Pride I can see in that you can have great Pride not just in yourself but in great works you have helped bring into being along with the Pride one can have in an accomplished organization they are a part of such as a team or nation. Pride can foster a love for these sorts of things even in a great leader and thier great dream you have dedicated your life to realizing. The sort of love and dedication Lust can seed is more personal in nature and and revolves around an individual rather than something more nebulous like a nation although it could easily extend to a love and desire to protect and make real the dreams of that individual which could include something like building a nation. I could see this sin being part of what is driving Belphagor also.

Melting Sky

The names being in bold doesn't mean they are GSs. Divine skills appear in bold too. We saw that with Salvos, Avaritia and Daniel (I think the sword skill is a divine).

Gonvas

No, you forgot about chapter 426. When that changeling uses reggie boys' skills they were also in bold when cast.

Rd Zg

Skills using Divine Essence are also written in bold when cast. At least half the time. Belphagor is a Primordial Demon of Sloth. Demons of any sin can develop feelings and whatever else. The sin is simply primary part of their essence. Creating minions that do one's bidding - is one of sloth's aims / main powers. And there were quite a lot of other instances that show his true essence. It is rather ironic that a Demon of Sloth is doing so much work.

Alexey Gladkich

It's most likely he's a Demon of Lust. His primary motivation was following the devil and even after the collapse of the kingdom he "chose to suffer in his stead". The emotion Salvos couldn't identify seems to be love, and his final (and presumably strongest) grand skill is My Love: Everlasting.

WingedIkaros

Nah those were probably his normal skills that he used. He hasn't shown his grand skills. He'll be fine.

Rd Zg

Only grand skills are written in bold. It's quite literally the primary indication of a grand skill.

WingedIkaros

Those ain't grand skills, those are his normal skills. He just has a high enough level that they match grand skills in power. His grand skill skills are definitely way stronger and if it is an attacking skill it could probably destroy whole countries and we would have finally noticed it.

Rd Zg

Holy shit. Belphegor better not die, but if he does, he's gonna go out like an absolute boss, slaying the corruption with the power of love :3

Cha0sniper

Thought he is a Demon of Sloth

roflkong3

Nah those were probably his normal skills that he used. He hasn't shown his grand skills. He'll be fine.

Rd Zg

Also didn't expect him to be a Demon of Lust, but it's fitting and he seems almost like a mirror for Haec.

WingedIkaros

Absolutely glorious. I really hope Belphegor doesn't fall to corruption, though I imagine he will. Quite an arsenal of Grand Skills as well, Worldbreaker, My Left Hand: Creation, My Right Hand: Destruction, My Soul: Indomitable, and My Love: Everlasting. If I'm not mistaken they seem to illustrate his story arc with the with the rise and fall of the devil's kingdom alongside his vow to protect what remains.

WingedIkaros

Wheels, wings, and an eye-looking sphere… it’s good to see Salvos attain her true calling as a biblically accurate angel. Belphegor being GOATed was amazing too. I really hope Salvos will get strong enough in time to provide him some relief. Dude doesn’t deserve an eternal war for his loyalty and devotion.

Ihaxlikenoob

Damn, what a (presumed) end to a tragically loyal character.

Vincebourgh

Hell yeah I love that shit

Shelbo

Damn, chapter made me emotional. It was great. Hope to see Belphegor in the future, unexpected but great farewell.

Azrie

Thanks for the chapter!
