February 2020 Wrap-Up
Added 2020-02-28 16:21:19 +0000 UTCFirst of all I have to say a huge thank you to all new and existing patrons! I'm totally overwhelmed by your support and the fact that this community is growing so fast. We've more than doubled in February which is totally amazing.
I'm really glad that the content seems to hit a nerve. I also received some great input by you guys about what to write so thanks for that as well!
As this whole site is still pretty young, I'm still in the process of adjusting a few things so here's a little wrap-up of what is new and what to expect in the future.
This month there are two new members who joined the $40 composition feedback tier which is really great. I will reach out personally to you and talk about how to do this in the next few days.
It seems like about 3-4 new posts a week is the sweet spot for what you guys prefer and also what I can "deliver" besides my regular work, so I will try to keep this pace up as long as no brutal deadlines keep me away from it.
I adjusted the tiers description accordingly to be a bit more precise about what to expect depending on which tier you join.
So what's to expect in the future? I have some exciting things coming up that I think you will really like:
- With the composition walkthrough of WE HAVE TO SHAKE THEM OFF coming close to an end from the compositional side, the next step for this will be the Mock-Up. This will include making the Audio Stems and Midi files available to you so you can have a closer look at this from different angles and dive a bit deeper into the piece.
- I finally got around to figure out how to create a DAWcast as well as a - let's call it -Doricocast, so there will most likely be some video content incoming in the near future. I will probably not do Live-Streams as I want to save you from watching hour long videos but will rather try to edit something more snappy together so you don't need to sit through every individual step but get the important information in a more condensed way. However, don't expect any "How to do this in this Software"-Tutorials but rather videos that focus on the music, not on the tools. I think it might be an interesting thing for you to simply watch what I'm doing with me commenting on the things rather than reading all things about it. And particularly when making the step to DAW and Mock-Up I feel a Video might transport way more useful information than text. I will most likely stay on text based posts when doing composition walkthroughs as it might be more benefitial for everybody to go through this at their own pace.
- I recently recorded one of my pieces with orchestra for which I kept all rights, so it is not bound to any project which means I'm completely free in what I can do with it. This will give me the chance to actually make the individual microphone signals for this piece available to you so we can talk about how real orchestra recordings differ from mock-ups, microphone setups and orchestral mix and you will get the chance to try and mix and experiment with it yourself. I don't think anybody has ever done something like this before so I'm really excited about this. I think this will again be embedded in a multi-part tutorial.
- I will be working on a short film in March/April which I will record with orchestra in late April. I negotiated a deal with the client to keep all the rights for the music. I'm not quite sure how stressful this will be so I can't promise anything yet but my goal is to take you along on the process.
- A few of you have asked me to share a few more personal stories regarding my musical past, how I got my first jobs, my general musical background and approach to writing music so I will write a bit about these things in the future as well.
So you see there's LOTS to come in the future. I'm not sure if you will see ALL of this already in March but at least that's the roadmap for this site. However I also have to say that most of this content will be only available for the higher tiers as it simply takes a lot of time to prepare this kind of content. I will try to make sure to make some of it available to the $1 tier as well, though.
Meanwhile, I found a few issues with Patreon that I find annoying, mainly the impossibility to embed any code (like Soundcloud Player, Youtube Videos) into posts so be assured that these shortcomings are not to annoy you but they simply are limitations of this platform which I hope to be addressed in the future.
I hope you share some of my excitement about what's to come here. If you like this Patreon Page, please spread the word about it as of course the more people join the more time I can spend on posts/videos etc. for this.
And once again: Thanks for being my patrons! You guys rock!
