YouTube Is Cracking Down On My Channel

I received a Community Guidelines strike from YouTube for my video on NewPipe - a front-end alternative that allows Android users to watch YouTube videos without ads, trackers, and with some additional features. This could give YouTube policy grounds to shut down my channel at any moment since I've made numerous videos about how users can block Google's ads and trackers. And it appears that that's exactly what YouTube will no longer allow on their platform.

I know, I appreciate your help. I can make a whole episode about this issue. The way it's set up is by design. The government wants companies to censor content because it's good for business and makes the government's job easier. The only way to change this would be to kill the business of the whole US internet industry so I don't think that's ever happening. Now that I am writing this, I am gonna make an episode on this.

The Hated One

I was just asking to try and help you. I have no idea.

Jose Vanduka

This is pure horse shit.

The Hated One

Do you think this will help your issues with YouTube? https://youtu.be/xJfUXVOoFBo

Jose Vanduka

I will have to check but last time I looked at Vimeo, it was very expensive to host videos there. And they can still remove them for any reason. I think some people from among the community are backing up my channel on torrents. It kinda makes most sense to have the most people have backups of my stuff. The Twitter combo is an interesting idea though. I might have to figure out how to grow on Twitter first

The Hated One

Just to be clear, I was not thinking of Vimeo as a discovery platform, only a back end delivery platform and use Twitter as the funnel to drive traffic. That sort of thing. I'm just trying to help you maybe think of ways to get around the YouTube issue that is absolutely ridiculous.

Jose Vanduka

Vimeo is not really a solution, it's very expensive and not a discovery platform. Twitter is not a YouTube replacement and definitely not a free speech platform (it has ToS just as any other platform). I am on Twitter but I almost never post there. I am thinking off being more active on Twitter, but not in the hopes of replacing YouTube. Maybe complementing it.

The Hated One

I am sure you have thought about a lot of different alternatives, but I will make a suggestion just in case. What about pivioting over to Twitter that allows and encourages free speech under Musk's control and then link to your videos stored on something like Vimeo? You could continue to publish the stuff that will not get you in their crosshairs on YouTube and simply build your audience over time there. I don't even use Twitter (X), but I would if you went there. This is all absolutely sad is all I can say.

Jose Vanduka

Youtube sucks

Cryptomator

Glad to hear it! I love listening to your podcasts. I always learn something new

It's big of you to be here if you don't agree. I appreciate that. Conspiracy theory is a poorly defined term that means opposite things to different people. It doesn't automatically mean that those people disagree on the substance though. Your comment inspired me to make an episode on this!

The Hated One

This is it, I think. They undercut their competition on price until they dominated the market, now they want to reap their rewards of limitless control over the consumer. It's what all of the enshitified big tech platforms have done in the past 3 decades.

The Hated One

As long as people don't pretend to be me, I don't mind if they reupload some of my stuff outside of YouTube.

The Hated One

There is 100% a conspiracy to suppress independent media but in your case this sounds like plain corporate greed. YouTube hasn't made a profit since it's inception so it served as a loss leader for Google ads which was okay while they were still cheap interest rates. Now that interest rates are higher Google actually has to turn a profit and your videos directly go against their bottom line. Either way I will continue to support you on patron. I don't agree with much of the things you say outside of cybersecurity but I think it's crucial to support independent content creators

brownbaron

Oh, I just got to the end, still, I would appreciate the option to share a place for people to watch it outside of youtube.

Harr

Perhaps you could spread your videos through other means as well, such as Peertube or LBRY/ Odysee. These methods are free from corporate censorship.

Harr

YouTube has operated at a loss, subsidized by Google, for over a decade in order to eliminate any viable competitor before it could launch. Now that they've cornered the market, they want to cry foul when users wont capitulate to the full enshittification of the platform. Nobody should feel sorry for them. If the FTC had a moral bone in their body they would come after them for anti-trust, but the tech lobby will make sure that never happens.

Kitten

I already follow all your content almost only on greyjay, because I don't even get your videos recommended, despite having your channel followed and notifications on.
