October 2023 News Update

Hello everyone!

Hope you all are having a good Halloween. This update will be a short one as we transition to a longer dev cycle and a better workflow. Also I had surgery this month and was off my feet for a few weeks, so not much was done. (Yes, I am good by this point and recovery was great. It was just a minor surgery. So no worries there.)

In my last post, I talked about changing the amount of time we need between updates. The builds now just need more time and as we all saw, rushing it is only going to make the product worst. 

Timeline

So for the next update we are planning for it to take 3 months, we are looking to finish up crafting system fully then get a large amount of crafting items in. I also want to get at least two new monsters in. I will do a post with the full plan this first week. At that post, I will give a link to the new public Trello. This will be a site where you folks can see our progress and an outline what what we are working on during these 3 months. 

Testing

For this month, we decided to work on the workflow and setting up a tester channel on discord for EOK. I will open the channel this week. Because of my time away from the computer, I wasn't able to finish the integration of the new tools for testing. It's in the works, but the plan is to have Github to build out a tester version of the game to either a drive folder or itch.io for testers to use.  I will also be making a brand new bug report forum for the tester channel as a way to report bugs. That way we can have a better record of bugs.

As such, I will be releasing the test build of EOK to you guys now.  I'll do a quick overview of the tools. Keep in mind, Minle made all these tools for use to use.

Below are two buttons, the unlock skill will give you the fire spell and the scene button will allow you to go to any part of town even if it's not open.

Below are two buttons for combat. This allows you to either win the battle or submit to an enemy.

Finally  the debug tool. This is the only part that wasn't made by Minle as it comes built in with Unity. The first button opens the error code in a text file that you can save and send to us. Clear button just cleans the current log so you can reset and the close button hides the tool. These only pop up when there are errors in the game. It won't catch everything, but most of it. 

That's it for the test build. This will also allow you folks to check out places and monsters easily without having to replay the game each time. So even if you aren't a tester you can still enjoy this time around. 

Now the testing and reporting as a tester for EOK is 100% volunteer.  If you do help us out with this then we will invite you to the tester channel, you will get a new discord role as a tester and you will get your name updated to a tester list on the credits of the game. Again this is volunteer so don't worry if you don't want to give feedback, I will still keep the suggestion channel for everyone else.

Keep in mind however that in order to be a tester you must be at least a patron of EOK. That's the only requirement.  

New Knights

So last time I worked on the knights roster, we got the polls up and voted for two new ones. Well I finally finished them.  Below attached is the two first art works of the new characters. They both will be on your team. 

That being said we have one last spot left to filled, tomorrow I will open the final knight poll to vote for the final night. This will be a public build but patrons will have more voting power. This will go on for the whole month.
